Flash and the clusterbusters have done some good work in advancing the medicinal use of mushrooms.
The email is quite interesting, but also depressing. The big pharma companies (which have a lock on what gets developed into medicines that doctors use) have an interest only in single compounds (not complex mixtures like in herbs, mushrooms). They only have an interest if the material can be synthesized. And they have no interest if they can't patent it and control it.
Nevermind that a plant might cure a dreaded disease. The profit is in patenting methyl-ethyl-zoobinate as a possible treatment for baldness.

Concerning the involvement of companies ? NO (as far as i know)
The worldwide market for triptanes is a billions $ market. ;(
For me the mushrooms didn't realy work, but i still feel confident that they did for others. I am very curious for the study results at McLean Hospital.(one day :-| )

A blinded trial would certainly increase confidence in the effectiveness of psilocybin for cluster headaches. Rigt now while the evidence for it's effectiveness is relatively weak.
Psilocybin can be synthesized. If the pharmaceutical companies were interested in the compound, they would more than likely begin by attempting to modify the compund to eliminate its psychoactive properties.

Psilocybin can by synthesized. Albert Hofmann did it in 1959. You know who gets cluster headaches though? Shroomery member #5039, Phred gets them. Ask him all about them.

And you'd end up with compounds which act via a serotonergic mechanism with no recreational value.
Such as some of the current treatments for migraine headaches.

What makes me real angry are the prices of the medicine. 6 single doses of Asco Top ~96 - 125 USD (125 $ is the normal price) 2 single doses of Imigran SC ~ 96 USD. Research costs for drugs which are on the market for some years? Why is the same medicine frome the same company much cheaper in other countries? Have to break now. There are other wanted side effects.

True. I'm sure it would be nice to have the medicine without the psychoactive elements, but if you want to trip, you should be able to trip.

Exactly my point. If this is an actual effort to bring aid and help to those with medical issues, then good. But if it is just a legalization attempt disguised as one, then I most certainly frown on that.
