Yeah Do what turntable junky said. They`ll give you the contact inf. for firefighter boot-camp. Then you gotta pass a bunch of written and physical tests and they`ll call you if you got the job, depends on how many people want to be a FF and how many they need. If you get the job, you got to live at the fireman station and wait for calls. You get paid to fart around when not fighting fires.

I know a little. My roomate my sophmore year in college was training to become a firefighter.

He attended a two year program at a local technical college for firefighting. It included some firefighting courses as well as going to the firehouse and learning from real firefighters. Putting out fires in the burn tower, handling the hoses and stuff. Getting Firefighting I and Firefighting II certificates was the basic goal of the training.

Just as he was going to go to paramedic school to ride in the ambulance with the paremedics, which is almost a requirement these days to get a job, he failed a drug test and was kicked out of the program. Hes a great guy so that was a real downer. I know after going to paramedic school he was going to have to do a lot of volunteer work for the firehouse.

Depending on where you are it is a pretty hard job to get, but worth the effort if you are really dedicated.

In my neck of the woods they usually only take reserve fire fighters to full time fire fighters. So, you do it for free for a few years until theyll take you on full time.
