What's with the guilt trip from the firefighters?
    #3842358 - 02/27/05 06:38 PM (11 years, 9 months ago)

they call me atleast once a week, always layin on some big guilt trip. Like right now, "were getting ready for our drive, and it's all done thru the mail, and all the money goes to benifit the familys of the members who have been burned, i'm sure you counld imagine how horrible it is to be burned... ... .. Could we count on you for a small donation?"

tell me that doesnt sound like a guilt trip!. Every time its like that, and they never come out and say right away "can we have some money?" they lay on a whole paragraph of guilt, and they dont let you get a word in. And it's not like you can tell the firefighters "fuck off and stop calling me" like you can with your standard telemarketer.

I donated some money after 9/11 to the firefighters and victims---I got a call once a month after that asking for donations. I feel so bad for people who are burned for burns is a terrible painful injory but I can only give so much and I got my own problems to take care of.

"I can imagine how horrible it is to be burned. In fact, I was recently in a fire where my entire house and everything in it burned to the ground. Do you think that I might have a small donation to get back on track again?"

"Why yes, I'd love to help yo....oh there's someone at the door, just a moment. [Distant] Hello? HOLY SHIT HE HAS A KNIFE! [muffled screaming]"

"Sure I'll donate something, but first riddle me this...[insert riddle]"

"I'll tell you what, if you can personally come stand watch to ensure my house doesn't ever burn down, I'll be happy to donate a little."

"If you give me your name and address, I'll be more than happy to donate [maniacal laugh]"

Creativity works wonders

Although firefighters are worthy of respect and an occassional donation. However sometimes they can be as annoying as telemarketers.

Telemarketers have what they call 'sucker lists' of people who have given before, what kind of pitch works on them etc... companies will pay more for sucker lists than anything...
