Definitely RebelMoon...the first few times that shook me up too...they look great, then you shake and it's "what the heck?" But by the time they are really ready...day 10 to 14 and you crumble them in your tray...the grains will hold together much better. Good Luck.

thanks!
one more question. i have read that you should shake every 4 days or so. do you find that this is good to do or should you let it colonize longer? i have shaken my jars twice so far (every 2-3 days) since they looked deceivingly overcolonized.should i be patient and hold out for, say, a week?

According to Paul Stamets (The Mushroom Cultivator & Growing Gourmet & Medicinal
Mushrooms) you should shake vigourously after you innoculate your grain or other media. He then reccomends shaking at day 4-5 and says usually grain colonizes by day 7-10. I found with Cubensis I shook my jars once and they were fully colonized by day 9 when incubated at 86F.

well, i shook my jars after innoculation and then agin 2 days later and then a third time on day five. it is now day 9 and the grain on the outside is very white with mycelium.
should i shake my jars again soon or should i wait? im afraid that once i dump the grain the inside wont be colonized like the last two times i shook it. should i maybe wait a couple more days?
