Aclimating(or whatever you call it) salvia question
    #7119452 -

I was just wondering, is it better for the plant to aclimate to lower humidity when there are less or more leaves on it? I've got a few plants I just took a lot of cuttings off of and their pretty bare right now, I thought maybe it would be easier on the plant if there is less foliage for it to put its energy towards keeping healthy, and that it might be a good time to do it with a couple of them.

What do you guys/gals think?

i usually just top the plants...
if the plant cant sustain its old growth in its new environment, it will drop its leaves anyway.

Is that the worst that will happen? Or can the whole plant actually die from it?

My experience with growing salvia has been fairly short so far, so others expertise and experience is well appreciated.

i have had the same thing happen to me with it dropping its leaves and it will grow right back to live properly in its new environment...mine went from 90%+ humidity to who knows what humidity, couldn't care less really, the plant is doing great.

Dr :ronpaul: says to stop trying to treat the side-effects of big government and focus on the core issues. End the Federal Reserve/audit the gold reserves at Fort Knox, abolish the IRS, end all wars and occupancies, stop the building of an empire that will inevitably fail, and cut all unconstitutional federal programs. Put the power back in the peoples' hands by ending this nanny-state.

if you lower the humidity too fast, the shock can kill a plant of course...
so dont be in a hurry... gradually lower it week by week.

I've noticed that Salvia grow different leaves depending on how much humidity they're getting. Mine grow large, flat, glossy leaves in high humidity, and small, elongated, and somewhat thicker leaves in low humidity. When conditions change, my plants gradually drop the leaves of one type and replace them with those of the other.

Removing the leaves was probably a good idea, to limit water loss from transpiration. Your plant shouldn't die from low humidity alone.

Thanks guys for all your advice. I'll try to gradually bring it out of high humidity to lessen the chance of any problems.

I checked out your log on salviasource highdroponics, I like all your plants and cacti, and that pitcher plant is badass!

Taharka, thats interesting about the leaves changing characteristics relating to different environments, I'll see if I can tell a difference once they start growing more leaves.

Again, you all have my thanks. :hippie:
