Pinning Question...

I have 4 BRF cakes that I birthed about 1 week ago. They have some good sized pins growing off the bottom of them. The pins are ONLY growing out of the bottom and not the sides or the top. The only light exposure the cakes get is when I open up the terrarium to exchange the old air with fresh about 4-5 times a day. Are these called invitro pins? should I be exposing them to more light to initiate pins on the sides and top? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks a lot.

I dont use cakes, but I can offer you some advice. Invitro means 'behind glass' meaning when the pins begin inside the jar. Your fanning sounds good. If your getting good sized pins then the amount of light your giving is probably correct. You could however use some type of light.

Would someone with some cake experience help out?

Try throwing moist verm on top of the cake http://www.fanaticus.com/casing.htm . A majority of the moisture may be at the bottom of the cake, and that may be the reason that pins are forming there and not on top.
