European appliances operate at a different hertz (cycles per second). I think they have a different voltage as well.

If your device is a simple motor-based device (fan, etc...) then having a different hertz won't fuck with it. Having a different voltage might fry it though. I wouldn't chance it. They do have converters you know.

It just wouldn't work. Get the adaptor and it would be just like normal.

did you know that european electricity operates at the same frequency as the heart so its more dangerous to get shocked over here in Europe.

you yanks use 120V
We europeans opt for a more adequate 240V / 13A ac I believe.

You need to use an adapter; else you'll fry whatever you're trying to use.

Try it....you'll see why when you see the plugs in Europe.

Bloody prongs are ROUND!

But thats not why you shouldn't do it...see RandalFlag's post for why.

alright, nobody gave you the full answer.

first you need an adapter, which you plug your appliance into, then it allows the plug to fit into the european outlet. depending on the appliance, you might be all set. you gotta look at the plug, it should say what voltage it can take. some things, like laptop computers can usually be used all over the world, because they're meant for people who travel. digital cameras usually plug in all over the world. but you gotta look at the plug first to be safe. it will say how much voltage it can withstand on it, like 120v-240v. if it doesnt say that anywhere, then it most likely only takes the standard voltage from the country that you bought it in. if this is the case, then you need a converter, which converts the voltage of the outlet. in a lot of cases adapters and converters come all in one package, so you buy like a 10 dollar package and you get everything you need.

if you plug it in without converting the voltage first, and it can't withstand it, there will be a loud pop, some smoke, and you will blow a fuse. depending on what you plugged in, it could completely break it, could only destroy the battery, or it could be perfectly fine, although i wouldn't suggest trying it.
