Plz help with a .SHN/.WAV related question..

Hi everyone. I'm happily downloading GD as I type (probably not good for file intergrity but anyway..)

Question is:

The downloads arrive in .SHN format. Sort of like audio's equivilent to a .ZIP file.

The MKW program will verify file integrity through MD5 signatures, then convert them to lossless .WAV files.

Great! Now I can burn an audio cd with the .WAV files!

Now, as far as having a usable archive, I'm missing a point or two here.

I don't particularly want to burn two copies of each show, one a cd player ready cd, and one a data cd for archive. I would rather just burn audio cds.

Question is, if I just burn audio cds, how will I get the files off the cds later (losslessly) if I wan't to make more copies of the cds to share?

Please help me with this, because if I have to I'm going to make archive cds by burning the .WAV files as data, and burn another copy of each show as audio, to listen to in the car and whatnot. But I'd rather not, as I said.

I'm not sure I know what your asking, I download the Shn files, decompress, delete the compressed copy then burn to a Cd.....may be what your doing is something different?

Ok, I went into un-nescessary detail somewhat.

I have the decompressed files. I wan't to burn the cd's now. The cd burner has 2 options.

data cd, and audio cd.

There is where I have the problem.

the computer can readily read data cds, but audio cds can play in cd players.

If I choose to burn audio cds, is there a way to get the files back onto the computer later if I wan't to make additional copies of the show ?

Ok, cool, do you also know what program would do that for me ?

(losslessly?)

(I don't want to rip any crummy MP3's later, I wan't to be able to get the complete .WAV files back as they were when downloaded.)

Thank you! I stumbled upon this paragraph since posting this thread though:

"For distribution and archiving purposes, the Shorten (.shn) files themselves can also be burned onto a CD-R as data. One big advantage to archiving Shorten files is that you'll never have to deal with digital audio extraction (DAE) from an audio disc, which can sometimes produce clicks and other undesired artifacts."
