"Acid Test" Questions.

I will be doing a speech for a class I am taking. Its a public speaking/drama class and we are supposed talk about a book. She said it could be just any book. But she was hoping we could explain a book. She said that we should consider how it should appeal to the auidence.
I decided on The Electric Kool Aid Acid test, by Tom Wolfe. Simply be cause I know the entire class is firmular with Ken Kesey, as many of them read it in a prior class. Many people don't know much of anyhting about Kesey and I decided this book would be a good book it do.
Now down to the point, She mentioned that we may want to set the scene. But besides the readings I was wondering if anyone could decribe the feel/atompshere of an Acid Test.
I have read Chinacat mention the warm community feel he felt at some grateful dead shows. and While diferent it was always my Understanding that the dead really had a lot in relation and feel to the acid tests. (I've only been a dead fan for about a year so, forgive me if I'm wrong).
Incase anyone is unclear about what I was aiming for with this discusion it was simply to have some other opinons on what the feel of an Acid test was like in relation to a speech on the book.

I wasn't at the acid tests so I can't tell you personaly. But just imagine it. LSD was legal and very pure. It probably felt like a huge breakthrough in human conciousness. I have a bunch of books on the Dead. If I have time later i'll post some quotes from people who were there.

Just to show you how accurate that book is, Wolfe claims that when the Pranksters showed up at the Millbrook estate to meet Timothy Leary, that Leary never came out to say high. The picture below was taken that day. Obviously that's Leary on the bus with Neal Cassady.
Read "Storming Heaven" by Jay Stevens. He doesn't make it seem like he knows what happened first hand. He tells the story through EXHAUSTIVE research. Five stars for that book.

The Electric Kool Aid Acid Test is still a good book. There is more points just like yours but Wolfe is a wonderful author even if he is a journalist.

I read a quote somewhere from one of the Merry Pranksters... Can't remember the exact quote, but it was something like, "I never trusted that Wolfe, and none of us really did... he refused to take acid the whole time he was researching us." I'll try and find a reference when I'm not lazy...
