Hi everyone, I am very new to this, and I am try to have everything figured out so when it happens, im ready for it. my question is, from what I have read, you can just put perlite or clay in a sealed terrarium (i.e. a 10 hallon aquarium)? could this work? I know its probrobly been asked a houndred times...

Yeah, basically. With perlite, you'll still need to open up the terrarium and fan a few times a day. And if the perlite gets too dry, mist every once in a while. You'll also need a container to set your cakes and/or casing in.

I got my Perlite at Wal-mart(in the garden section). It's only like $3 a bag. If you don't have a Wal-mart around you I'm sure most Garden stores will carry it.

I don't believe so. Somebody more experienced might want to answer this, but I'm pretty sure you can't.

i?m no where near an expert yet but i don?t think perlite should be used at all for a substrate. I don?t think it would serve the right purpose. Stick with verm.

From what I understand its easier for your first time to just use cakes, however, you get a better yield from casing... And if you want a good substrate use horse poo!
