maintaining proper RH in terrarium
    #5845450 - 07/11/06 01:03 AM (17 years, 6 months ago)

I have a simple box terrarium with a 1/2 in perlite layer on the bottom but recieve an RH above 96% most of the time according my hygrometer.
I was wondering how people keep their RH around 90 with this type of set up. CHEERS

depending on the precise method, fanning is often a common method of reducing humidity. Simply open your terarium and fan some fresh air into it for a second and close it back up.

perlite creates humidity by exposing a large surface area... too much humidity?  reduce the surface area.  cover some up with something.  assuming you want the lower humidity to do casings... if your casing tray(s) covers much of the "floor" of your terrarium, once its in there it may create the reduction you're looking for automatically (assuming you took your baseline measurement with it empty?)

the fresh air suggestions above are also good

If you're doing cased substrates in a terrarium, perlite usually isn't required. The cased trays will evaporate enough moisture to give the humidity you want. Otherwise as said above, leave the lid on crooked so you have constant air exchange and reduced humidity.
