Your comments seem to be what a reaction would typically be for a crisis. I have studied crisis communications and one of the first things is to issue an apology. This helps reputation and brand image. Its not like they are getting sued and issuing an apology would be an admission of guilt. He does list a plan of action to fix the situation. But it is a bit vague.

You mentioned goodwill, what a coincidence there too.... i just finished studying some acct this semester and their was a section of goodwill in there on biz. This might not be exactly what you were thinking of but a company can gain goodwill and increase the value of the firm. Well it seems as though this company has an impairment of goodwill. Since goodwill is usually an intangible and has an indefinite life someones gonna need to write loss due to impairment on the books. Or writeoff entirely the goodwill.

Goodwill is just the difference. Like a premium paid on bonds, stocks, etc... Brand image/equity can certainly affect/effect firm value. On the books, companies can record goodwill as an asset. They can also amortize/write off this.

Brand equity is the value added or subtracted to a product due to consumer perception.

Example: If you perceived Apple as having good design and high quality products and you look at DVD players. One is an Apple Brand DVD player and another is some DVD player with a brand like Kiwi. You would think that the Apple Brand DVD Player is higher quality and a better design because you have associated Apple with these qualities. Brand equity can also be associated with emotions, like fun, cool, etc... but this is more along the lines of brand image.

Example: Walmart vs Target.

Its all marketing...

In the case of the crisis communications.... there are several examples in the past of corporations issuing apologies and such to regain its public image and reputation.

i hope you aren't saying he is going to steal there money
i have dealt with him many times getting manure and in the end he has pulled through .this is a business and in a business you can lose your supply extremely quickly when you have so many purchasing it.what should have been done is on the site when he gets low on manure to put a temporarily out of stock notice which would stop all new sales and allow him time to catch up much like some spore vendors do.
