You may actually have too high of a humidity. Mushrooms are often stopped from forming by too much water, so you might try bringing it down to 85-90% for a little bit. Cold shocking would be my first guess though.

Thanks Kodama. Your idea of the humidity possibly being too high reinforces my girlfreinds idea. I'll try to bring it down. Would like to hear details on cold shocking cakes from anyone out there. Thanks

I wouldn't bring the humidity down if I were you, not if your using cakes. I keep mine up ~100% (I'm guessing) using perlite. And all the documentation said keep the humidity as high as possible when using cakes. Totally different with casings though. Best of luck,

vivid

Well I'm going to have to add that my recent experience has led me to believe that 95% may be too high. I've known perlite+1 bubbler to reach about 95% in a 10-20 gallon setup. So perlite alone probably only reaches 85%-90% which may be a more appropriate level. Though I'm sure it all depends on what strain you are using. PF's amazonians seem to thrive on as much humidity as possible, though they are a "heartier" mushroom. Good luck and let me know what happens!

Hey Noisecode what you say makes some sense. I hadn't mentioned that I was doing two strains, PF's amazonians and Hawks Eq's. The eq's are the stubborn ones although I've got one cake fruiting two shrooms right now.
Still looking for methods of cold shocking cakes. Thanks again. Maddog
