mmmmm, organic human waste, it's what's for dinner

Way to answer my question.

Is the apple organic (as in not treated with inorganic substances) or not?

the apple is organic (organism) and it is treated with organic (synthetic) substances

Yeah the apple and the pesticides are organic if we're talking about the chemistry definition of Organic, but I have some breaking news for you: organic is a USDA certification with specific requirements (the Hippie stuff as you called it)

Some pesticides are synthesized from organic materials, and these cannot be used to produce Certified Organic foods. Other pesticides are made synthesized from inorganic materials, and these also cannot be used to produce Certified Organic foods.

Do you really not get this definition, or are you just being difficult?

If you wish to consume pesticide residues, go right ahead. But you are just plain wrong in claiming that Certified Organic foods are not qualitatively distinguishable from conventional foods.

i'm not confused about anything, in wisconsin, i worked on an "organic" farm and i worked on a non-"organic" (using your definition of "organic")

something about drinking milk from cows fed ground up cow parts isn't cool, organic, not cool

eating lettuce that comes from my shit, not cool

figure it out for yourself, look up what commercial "organic" farms use as feed and fertilizer

do you smoke pot?  good pot comes from synthetic fertilizer and HID lamps

do you drink alcohol?  where do you think the grapes and grain comes from?

WTF?

In chemistry, the term "organic" means a compound which contains carbon.  All other compounds are "inorganic."

Are you now claiming that all compounds are organic?

Oh, never mind...I just noticed your "mood."

If that's all you were trying to say you shouldn't have been claiming that the chemistry definition of the word "organic" was the same as the certification

the reason "organic" food is bullshit is chemistry, what kind of hippy food needs government certification? kinda hypocrititcal

what's your definition of organic? it seems like every plant we commercialize is genetically engineered and all our farm animals are on steroids.

You are a fool. Organic has definitions under the government as it relates to food. Stop using science to support your bullshit, that kind of stuff sickens me as an engineer.
By the way I also wouldn't ever consider buying expensive food because it was labeled organic

Nope, try again. Foods treated with fertilizers and pesticides with a non-animal or vegetable origin cannot be called "organic" in terms of food quality, though they would still be organic matter in terms of chemistry classification.

so food treated with human feces (organic) is somehow better than food treated with fertilizer?

ask all the people that got E. coli over the winter what they think of eating human feces

If the fertilizer is Ammonium Nitrate or Potassium Nitrate it's considered an inorganic food. If the fertilizer is manure or compost it can be labeled as organic food, and is far healthier. Food grown in a substrate isn't usually "covered" in it, the spinach was just an isolated case, just as not all human shit has e-coli in it. pesticides and fungicides are chemicals that are harmful to human health, and are less desirable to eat than food grown in natural soil compounds. Are you really this dense or are you just playing devil's advocate?

The only times I buy organic food is Dry foods(tea, flour,).I buy rye, spent and other hard to find flours. For my sourdough starters, because I believe they add more sour to it.

well purhaps some organic farms to feed animals and plants that way....but purhaps better farms do not?

I do know i can actually taste a difference between organic milk and non organic....I like organic better.

maybe people get sick from e coli......maybe they even die....but thats better than the fucked up diseases you get from pesticides and fertilizers that "slowly" kill you and make you wish you were dead.

Organic food
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fruits and vegetables grown organically are similar to conventionally grown produce. In most jurisdictions, organic food must meet specified production standards, which specify growing and processing conditions different from normal agricultural and food safety requirements.
Organic food is produced according to certain production standards. For crops, it means they were grown without the use of conventional pesticides, artificial fertilizers, human waste, or sewage sludge, and that they were processed without ionizing radiation or food additives. For animals, it means they were reared without the routine use of antibiotics and without the use of growth hormones. In most countries, organic produce must not be genetically modified.
Increasingly, organic food production is legally regulated. Currently, the US, the European Union, Japan and many other countries require producers to obtain organic certification in order to market food as organic.
Historically, organic farms have been relatively small family-run farms[1] – which is why organic food was once only available in small stores or farmers' markets. Now, organic foods are becoming much more widely available – organic food sales within the United States have enjoyed 17 to 20 percent growth for the past few years[2] while sales of conventional food have grown at only about 2 to 3 percent a year. Organic baby food is popular too, sales of which increased 21.6 percent in 2006, while baby food overall has only grown 3.1 percent in the same year.[3] This large growth is predicted to continue, and many companies are jumping into the market.[4]
There is evidence that organic farms are more sustainable and environmentally sound, among other benefits. These claims, however, are subject to dispute. One vocal critic in particular, Anthony Trewavas, has written detailed critiques of organic agriculture.[5][6]
