20 percent of the food feed to cows is NOT organic food.

Do I hear a class action lawsuit??? WHOS WITH ME? I BUY ORGANIC FOOD!!! YET ITS NOT ORGANIC

dairy products are not very healthy anyway..not to mention the cows flesh..but yeah, this sucks..... if you pay for organic, thats what you should get 100%......but at least you are not eating 100% shit like conventional food markets sell.....

organic...lol no such thing...it's really subjective...the only way you can be sure of what you're eating is if you grow your own food. untill then you'll just have to hope for the best.

um... exactly how organic do you think the food you're eating is?
now consider companies like HJ Hinez, Monsanto and Con Agra are 90%
of the organic market, these are the same companies with research
center that develop BGH and GMO seed. now think about how organic
your food is... then go read the USDA website and see what they
can get away with and still call it organic.

They passed this bill or law with the FDA that foods labeled as organic only have to be 20% organic. Might not be exactly 20% but close to it.

Why are there non-organic ingredients in some organic food?

If you were to make organic cookies at home you would naturally use organic flour, sugar, oil, eggs, raisins, etc. But what about the baking powder and baking soda? Because they are non-agricultural products, neither of these ingredients meets the definition of organic. Processors of many kinds of organic foods face the same dilemma. In addi­tion, nutritional fortification is sometimes required by regulation or professional guidelines, but not available in natural form.



Thus the NOSB recommends that the National List include synthetic processing aids and natural products such as minerals that are not agricultural. For the finished food to be called “organic,” these ingredients may not comprise more than 5% of the total product, by weight. For the finished product to be called “made with organic (specified food or food group(s)),” these ingredients may not comprise more than 30% of the product total by weight. Products that are composed of wholly organic ingredients may be identified as 100% organic.

You're talking about the chemistry definition of the word "organic"; there is a food-quality definition.

So if your "natural" apple is grown using synthetic fertilizer AND sprayed with synthetic pesticides/fungicides, you would still regard it as "organic"?

Are you familiar with the use of the term "organic" as it pertains to foods treated/not treated with synthetics? You do realize that the terms "organic" and "inorganic" in Chemistry do NOT have the same meaning as the terms used to describe foods?

"organic" goes back in time a lot further than some hippy bullshit about food
"organic" used to mean that it comes from an organism

Nope, try again. Foods treated with fertilizers and pesticides with a non-animal or vegetable origin cannot be called "organic" in terms of food quality, though they would still be organic matter in terms of chemistry classification.

Whether the organic food is processed or not is an entirely different topic. It is incredibly inaccurate to claim that ALL fertilizers and pesticides/insecticides are organic. Only those that come from animals or vegetables are organic, and only those may be used to grow certified organic foods.
