"HEPA Type" air purifiers

I was wondering if anyone had used HEPA-Type air purifiers, the kind that are used in small air filter systems usually for a 10x10 area. Although its not HEPA exactly, (it only filters down to 2 microns) it seems that this would work for most intents and purposes for trapping molds and other contaminants.
A friend has it in his lab right now because hes had alot of problems with contamination. Do you think it will benefit him?

Just the opposite. It will cause more contaminants by stirring up the air. Get rid of it. I have five of them sitting in my storage building.

They're ok for the living room, because they'll cut down on dust and such, but shut it off an hour or two before you do sterile work in order to give the air time to settle.
