although the overall appearance is very similar to luteofolius the more i focus on indevidual features (gills especialy) i keep eaning towards aeruginosus. how's the texture of the stem in the larger specimens?

If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

yes, that's what i wanted to hear.
that's what i have been thinking as well.
but, concretefeet- what exactly are you looking for in the mature stem texture, that is what's the difference between the two?

about the stem texture: i don't think it's a distinguishing factor, it's just something that i have been wondering about. in a few guides i have read that the flesh on the interior of the stipe of G. aerugenosus becomes soft or somewhat hollow in age. i have never noticed this before and thought i'd ask.

the flesh on older specimens is definitely softer but i wouldn't call it soft.
yes, the stems do hollow out a little in age, from the bottom up but not hollow all the way to the top.

I was under the impression that luteofolius can be ID'd but the cap texture which you can see in some of the smaller specimens in the above posted picture. The rough caps when they are young is what made me think they were luteo's. I think the only way for a true id is to get some pictures of those when they are fresher and in the ground. I have a few pictures somewhere of gyms from the same spot from last fall, i will try and find those and post them for the ultimate compare and contrast between the two species.
