Well i am not quiet sure about these. The first thing that stuck me as odd was how tall they are, i might have wrote them off as more stunzii but they are too tall. Then i noticed the lack of a blue ring, there is nothing. Now i would lean toward baeo's as that is the only other psilocybe i have ever found at this site. I guess thats why my guess is for now, but they are wierd looking baeos if thats what they are and they dont seem to be drying to the typical real light color that baeo caps fade too.
This first picture isnt very great, but it shows the moist cap color better than picture # with the flash going.


This one shows the specimens half dried.

Wierd ehhhhh.

They are baeocystis. That species is extremely variable and hard to pin down at first.

wow, workman that is pretty intense. This is the first year i have picked that species and everytime i have picked them they look a little different. Mushrooms are a very hard lot of gain even a slight understanding of.

Don't feel bad. Paul Stamets published that form of baeocystis (with photo) as Psilocybe strictipes in his first book "Psilocybe Mushrooms & Their Allies" (1978).

The error got into the literature in 1958 due to a mixed collection and some confusion with the collection numbers.

Speaking of Paul, did you all notice that his second pic of Ps. baeocystis is the same pic as the Audobon's only darker, for the bluing effect(of course!).
Also, his Ps. Stuntzii pic is the same as the Audobon's, only the picture is reversed and darkened!.

That bottom pic with the gills showing reminds me of a picture in the National Aud. Field Guide. I think its called a wine-cap stropharia? Don't have the book with me right now.
It does bear a resemblace to Baeos but Baeos lack an umbo, correct me if I'm wrong.
