If any could help me out with this... (computer crashing all the time)
    #6978404 -

Hey guys, I did search through this forum before posting. I feel like this deserves it own thread. My computer is crashing. It’s been crashing for some time every now. But it’s becoming very frequent. I can’t do anything on it without it crashing on me. I work in music applications and play games from time to time. The games now crash right away. The music applications last about 30min if my computers been off for a while. I have taken my whole computer apart and dusted it out very well. I also have used a huge fan to keep it cool. After inspecting it after a crash, I have found it is not overheating. (Powersupply and HD’s do heat up..but its crashed while they were cool before) I don’t have my CPU over clocked. Most of my parts are fairly new (I built this computer) I’ve also updated all my drivers/done full system scans
So here are my specs:

2 gigs of DDR2 Ram

30gig raptor HD (10,000rpm)

G-Force 7800 GT (video card)

Asus proactive AI A8N-SLI (motherboard)

Any tips would be great. Thank you!
-Todd

Frequent crashes of the kind you describe are typically caused by overheating (which you say you've ruled out), a faulty PSU or bad RAM.

A Faulty PSU is the most like suspect IMO, if you're sure it's not overheating. Do you have access to another you could swap over for a little while and see if the problems persist?

Check your bus frequency. Even if it's not overheating it, it can have stabilization issues because of frequency and voltage.

are your 2 gigs of ram both the same brand, and are they in alternating ram slots? (e.g. not next to each other?)

By crashing do mean locking up, or shutting down and/or restarting?
If you can burn a cd, I would try ultimate boot cd especially the mem test.
More often than not though, crashes are caused by windows problems; viruses, corrupt drivers and/or the registry. There are a few command line utilities you can run that may or may not fix some of the problems, but thats assuming you can keep the machine stable enough to run them.

If you can rule out hardware, I would reinstall Windows

Does the mobo have built in video?
Take out or disconnect all but the bare essentials.

If that 2g is 2 sticks, take out one stick, leave one in first slot.
Take out video card if possible.

Run memtest like that for a few hours (pain in the ass, i know.)

What sorta PSU you using? Is it name brand?
Also, did you check the northbridge for heat? Touch the heatsink on it, it shouldnt be more than warm to the touch. Some ASUS models are known for shitty cooling on the northbrige.
