Building a brick BBQ

A lot of people say it takes too much work and money to build a barbecue out of bricks, but there are a lot of people who say it isn't really that hard. It really doesn't seem like it would be that bad; even for someone like me, who has no experience in masonry. I could be totally wrong though. I already have the concrete foundation for one, so all I would have to do is mix up some mortar and start laying bricks. I was wondering if anyone has any experience building barbecues with bricks, or if anyone else has a brick barbecue that they care to comment about...

Even if you have a problem like TurntableJunky.

make sure you build it where it can get enough oxygen. because it would be easier to cover up an air hole thas too big. then have to redo it because it doesn't get enuff air.

I've been meaning to build one for a long time now.

I'm not a fan of propane and propane accessories

charcoal is the only way to go

a nice brick grill/oven would kick ass in my backyard

maybe I'll get one together this year

looks like that would be a nice bbq pit. where i live, we have a bbq place ranked 2nd in the world. Scott's bbq. its fucking awesome

Yeah a design like that shouldn't be too hard to build. I have no experience in masonry work, but how hard could it be?

A tip on the oxygen levels: if you find you're having issues maintaining a flame, you can always get a 1/2-1 inch masonry bit and drill some holes through the bricks at the lower portion of the thing (heat rises, oxygen will be "sucked" in the holes).

I'll post a pic of our pit that is identical to that one. It's a shame that we are moving without utilizing it, but it's gonna happen, I think. That is unless we have a going away cookout. Now that sounds like a plan!
