Moving out of Orange County, but Where?
    #6946422 -

There's nothing left for me here, all my good friends have moved away and my school turned me down for re-entry.  If I figure out where I want to go, I can put my 30-day notice in on the first and have a month to sell all of my shit to make up for moving costs.

The only demand of mine for a location is that it has a good community college nearby or a regular college that accepts late entry to just about anybody, which is in the western half of US or Canada (if a visa is possible).  I was thinking something down-to-earth like Oregon, something woodsy with a low to medium population.

A job would make things easier too of course, but I can generate my own income if necessary.

Thanks for any tips in advance!

If you are not much into "go/go entertainment" then I hear places like Idaho, Montana, parts of New Mexico and Arizona are totally laid back. Doesn't cost too much to live there and has beautiful surroundings.

On the other hand if you enjoy a lot of clubbing and stuff then you have to look elsewhere.

I don't like parties with more than 20 people, preferably less, so that's not a problem.

I do have a sister in Idaho, but our lifestyles don't exactly match, and I don't think I'd be accepted into what I think is the only school around her town (BYU), although if I lied a bunch about my religious beliefs, it would be my best bet for late acceptance.

Nah, at least I gave it a thought though.

Ok, so far Eugene is my front runner.  Help a brotha out, who know how you might change history with a simple post:strokebeard:

Or go above Oregon. To the west coast of Canada.

I hear it's fucking awesome living there. :snowman:

And Vancouver is voted the second best place in the world to live every year. Van used to take number 1 every year for a long time. But Zurich Switzerland bumped Vancouver down.

IMO.... Vancouver is still better. :yesnod:

Bakersfield!!!

Its about the cheapest place you can live and go to skewl, community college, and be close to civilization. Just a quick trip over the grapvevine to L.A./Orange Counties.

Alice, I'm digging the view of that mountain in Flagstaff, plus I think I have a couple acquaintances there.

Psilo, I'll definitely consider Vancouver, but it would have to be a blind move, because I just can't afford to move AND drive up to check it out.  I'll hop the border if I feel like it too

Pat, I've broken down there... no :p

Ya, how are the prices of living in AZ? Like rent for a studio or a just a small room in an apartment?

Also, if you know of any good jobs for a student... well, I gotta eat you know.

jobs are pretty easy to find here.. during the winter i work at snowbowl (the ski area) doing lessons and i get paid pretty well and during the summer i work at a golf course (dont really like working inside) but there are plenty of hotel/restraunt jobs

also living is pretty cheap, i live in a two bedroom that costs 600 a month so thats 300... depends on where you live, where i live a studio costs 445 and thats the cheapest you can get in flag... one of my rich buddies who has a dad thatll buy anything bought him a one bedroom for 800, thats probably the most expensive in flag but thats not even reasonable no one would do that...

Cool, that's way cheap.  PM me if you see anything especially sweet in a room or studio:thumbup:

Keep em coming everyone, I'd like to feel safe in knowing I gave it a good hard look.

http://www.alpineridge.com/ - very cheap but in a bad area and is hard to get in cuz they have a waiting list

http://www.pineviewvillage.com/s/homepage - fair price but also kind of in a bad area

also check out wavertree apartments, its a suite where you share a common area but you get your own bed and bath for like 450 kinda like pineviewvillage but its in a lot nicer area, also a lot of college kids live there aswell... its a really outdoorsy town everyone is outside and doing stuff and everyone is really friendly and there is really good bud/shrooms and anything else you might want... phoenix is 2 hours away, the grand canyon is an hour and a half, vegas is 4 hours, tucson is 4 hours, sedona is so close its not even funny and it is sooo beautiful in sedona theres a creek in sedona that everyone goes to and drinks beer/smokes bud at on the weekends, also there is a lot of mountain climbing areas (bouldering moslty) and biking trails, alot of poeple play frisbee golf we have some courses you can play at for free, mount elden is a good place to hike cuz it only take about 2 hours to get to the top, mount humphreys takes about 5-8 hours but i heard it is a great view from the top (12,500 ft)... the air is very clean out here and all you smell is the ponderosa pines.. i can keep going but ill stop here for now

Alice, cool, those are all things I like to do.  Honestly, I don't think I would have ever considered AZ if you weren't so helpful.  Hell, I thought it was just a desert.

FP, I think I'd choose Oregon over Washington just because of it's proximity to Cali (and because as far as I know, they are practically the same state).  But it's on the list of places to look into.  Yes I have an actual list now

If you have a suggestion about a small college town, possibly "woodsy," that would help too.

No worries, I tend to ramble. Anyways, I have a feeling that Florida would just a California turned bizzaro world, not that I know the first thing about your state.

Yeah, I just wanted to throw the irony of suggesting OC FL in there though. It's not cheap, it's heavily populated, and there is shit for woods/nature here. And of course, it's named Orange County.

I saw a commercial on Nevada the other day, looked real nice.
