Coco Coir Casing Countdown

Hiya. I have cased two (2) PF cakes in a 10" cake pan with coco coir. I waited a few days until I saw patches of mycelial growth, patched those with a little more coir then moved the pan to the grow chamber. It has been in there for five (5) days now and the network has spread nicely throughout - about 85-90% covered now with no contams. How long do I have to wait before I start to see pins? It seems to me I should have seen them by now, as the cakes already in the chamber are in their second flush, pinning all the while AND I harvest grown shrooms every other day. But nothing from the casing as yet! Help!

Well, I guess all anyone can say is that if the humidity and temperature are ok then you just have to be patient. I put some casings in on the 3rd and they only started pinning on the 18th. But once things get going it's great!

Hey Shianggu ...
Yeah, humidity is at 98-99% temps in the 73-56 range - perfect. I think you asked me to report on how my cold shocking went, right? Well, it worked fine. Don't know exactly WHY it worked fine but it jump started the cakes within a day.
So I assume from this that you are trying a casing too... may I ask what kind of yields you're realizing from it? Anybody else want to add on this question feel free. How much does your average two cake casing yield? Wet or dry...

Nice that the cold shocking worked out for you. You were using ice packs right? My very first casings I did got overlay. I recently flipped and recased, I'll see how that works out.
The next 2 fruited (yeah!) First flush between the 2 was about 180-200g, I don't remember exactly. But I used 2 pint jars of grain with those. Grain is not that tough, easier that the PF tek I think. They're now beginning the second flush. I'm now also using coco coir. I got cobweb mold with my 50/50 casing. I got rid of it though misting with Hippie's bleach solution. Coco coir seems more contam resistant, I haven't seen any nasties on it. And it's easier to see when it's dry.
When I began I ordered 9 strains and inoculated like crazy never thinking where the hell I'm going to put my casings.... That's my biggest problem now, space. My B+'s Mazapatecs and Amazonians are fruiting. My Hawaiians are not fruiting yet and my PR's look like it's going to overlay.
My biggest disappointment was that 3 out of 4 of my Cambodian jars got wiped out by contams. Luckily I have one that's doing ok. I'm really looking forward to some Cambodian fruits.
Best of luck!

Wait! I also am using coir and PF cake casings. Once the top becomes covered in myceleium, even after you patch, it can take up to 15 days at perfect temps and humidity. That's how long mine took. Don't mess with them or poke them. First you'll see little white knots start to form after about 5-8 days. Then finally little pins. Just give it time.
