maoi and psychedelics

mao inhibitors make the DMT expirience longer so i have a few questions i havent been able to find the anwsers to.

would taking an maoi orally, and then smoking DMT have the same effect as taking the DMT with harmaline orally?

can you take an maoi with salvia? (dont think im looking to do this, but im curious and cant find the anwser anywhere.)

and how long and intense would it make a mushroom trip if you took an maoi with a normal dose of shrooms? can you take less shrooms and more maoi a heavy trip?

I'm not looking to do any of these things except for DMT one, but i was just curious as to all of the effects of mao inhibitors combined with certain psychedelics.

any knowledge would be appreciated! :grin:

First of all, I personally would not recommend taking anything with salvia. MAOIs work by blocking the re-uptake of neurtransmitters (namely serotonin) in the brain. Psychedlics like lsd and psilocybin work in a related fashion. As far as I know, taking an MAOI with a psychedelic would increase the intensity of thr trip. However, I would caution the use of MAOIs in general. MAOIs can mix with many substances with deadly results. So if you take an MAOI, make sure any pills or whatever you may take (over-the-counter stuff, anything really) don't say something like, "Avoid the use of MAOIs when taking this."

I know caffiene and soy are bad to take with MAOIs although not deadly I don't think unless you take high concentraions before hand, you could get a stomache/headache from a little bit though.

Yes, but there are many prescription and over-the-counter drugs that may have negative effects if taken in concert with MAOIs. For example, I have a simple nutrient supplement that says, "Do not take with substances containing MAO or SSR inhibitors."

If you smoke DMT while on a MAOI it makes it way more intense (can you believe that's possible? It is) and last longer. I don't recommend it until you are very experienced and comfortable with smoking high doses of DMT.

As far as smoking Salvia while on a MAOI Zoe Seven wrote a whole book about exactly that. It's called Back From the Void. Zoe would smoke salvia while at the peak of Ayahuasca journeys. He has done this many times and wrote a amazing book about it. The altered state of consciousness he enters on this combo is so unique he decided it deserves it's own name so he calls it "Zenith 7." That book is awesome I recommend it highly.

smoking it and take maoi can weaken it tho if taken it the right dose it doesnt really potenate but just also give the effects of the maoi if its a psychoactive maoi

No I dont believe its possible, not because it dont believe it can get more intense...i just dont believe an MAOI potentiates SMOKED DMT. MAO's found in the liver are why it is necessary to take an MAOI when EATING and DIGESTING a form of DMT, because the MAO's will break it down to the point where it is not active.

SMOKED DMT is absorbed through the lungs, MAOI's should not have any direct effect on this because the DMT is not being digested. Now MAOI's themselves can give you a slight buzz and sense of well being (hense being used as an antidepressant) but I dont see how it would be any more than placebo that it potentiates SMOKED DMT. I could be wrong, but ive also experienced smoked DMT while on an MAOI and have never noticed any significant increase in effect that I would attribute to the MAOI and not just a different experience on the drug itself. Sound like nothing more than placebo...

Maybe I dont understand MAOI's correctly though, if im wrong, please correct me, im just going by experience and some quick research into Monoamine oxidase.

fucking read the damn link i posted if damn clearly no one has or this wouldnt be still going on second harmaline and harmala are psychedelic, if you take alot of rue or caapi you can have a pretty intense trip but as OTT said maoi's technically weaken the effects due to competition in the brain...
