Raw cacao as a mao inhibitor?
    #4838011 - 10/22/05 02:59 PM (16 years, 6 days ago)

Has anyone ever tried using raw cacao as an mao inhibitor? Raw cacao is only sold in specialist raw food stores as far as I know. I've heard it's a maoi, but I've also read elsewhere that chocolate is not suitable to use as an maoi, however I want to emphasise the distinction between processed chocolate and raw cacao.
So, anyone ever tried it? Or any info even if you've never tried it?
Thanks,
JohnnyJ

Cacao = Cocoa.

Still it might not be raw but still roasted.

A friend of mine recently read how the Aztecs used to drink a cocoa beverage when eating sacred mushrooms. So his last outing, he (1) ate a lot of chocolate throughout the day, and (2) about 30 mins before tripping, consumed 60g of a bar labelled "70% pure cocoa."

Taking what he expected to be only a moderately strong dose (.75 g of dried copelandia), he experienced overpowering hallucinations and body sensations, and barely avoided passing out. He also became suspicious and paranoid. Not a good trip. Strong, but not good.

So, whether MAOI or not, it could be that cocoa does something to potentiate psilocbyin.

I'm still checking around for more information on the effects of cocoa and will post here if I find anything interesting.

I met a guy who did mushrooms in a small village in Mexico with the locals. The ceremony definately consisted of chocolate before and during the mushroom eating process.

For me, using of MAO inhibitor looks like to screw in a safety valve on a steam boiler. You got "a higher pressure" (i.e. a stronger trip) in your "biochemical boiler", but you deprive your brain of it's last chance to manage with psilocybin attack if something go wrong. The boiler can blow up, can't it?

Never tried it, but chocolate is a mild MAOI from what I've read. good Luck!

You can buy raw cocoa nibs that are unroasted....
I think it is normal practice to pile the raw beans or nibs up right after harvest
to ferment under some large leaves out in the sun for a number of days....

I purchased a large 2.5 pound bag of raw cocoa nibs a while ago,
and they are quite tasty if you like the taste of dark chocolate....
They also mix well with things you can put chocolate in....

But, they are kind of like nuts, in that sometimes you run across one that tastes nasty...!

They are supposed to be good for you, but not sure about the MAOI action....

Chocolate is not an MAOI.  At least not a very strong one.  But contains adenine(which is involved in the sleep and dreaming), theobromine, a known drug, and small amounts of caffeine, also phenethylamine(nature "love" drug an amphetamine precursor.  Chocolate adds a dreamier, edgier, quality to the shrooms or Ayahuasca.  Try it with the Rue.
