Run. Plain and simple.
[edit]
Without the stairmaster-thing, as in "Go for a Run."
It's completely different than on a machine. And if that's still not enough, find a hill and run up that.

I would also agree on the running. Jogging an excellent way to increase cardio. But I would also highly suggest getting a really good pair of jogging shoes, trust me on this one

One strategy to approach cardio is to run easy for a bit, then run as hard and fast as you can for as long as you can... go back to an easy jog.. then repeat. This is by far the best to way to burn fat and increase cardio. Studies have shown that 15minutes of doing the easy... hard... easy... hard method burns the same amount of fat as a 45min constant easy run.

i cant stand running or jogging. its high impact, and does a number on my joints. not that my joints are frail or anything, but i always seem to twist an ankle or lock my knee at the wrong time, etc. not that i have never run before, i used to all the time. even though my best record was 2 miles in 17 minutes (which apparently, isn't shit lol).

ive been going to the gym 4-5 days per week for the last few months, and the rowing machines, and another called the treadmaster always get my heartrate up, especially the latter.

at gyms, they usually dont scream at you while you workout unless you pay extra for that (personal trainers)

i pay about $50 per month, so if I go at least 5 days a week, 2 hours per day - i'm spending less than $1 per hour to go. but im sure theres people that pay the $50 and use it only a few times per month.

how about wind sprints? goto a track or a field spring 30-40m and jog 100m then sprint another 30-40m. Do ~8 sprints.

I have an answer for you. I absolutely, 100% guarantee that if you follow it, you will burn fat, lose weight, shoot your heart-rate through the roof, and drastically improve lung capacity. It's called the Tabata method.

First, pick an exercise that works a large portion of your body. Sprints are great, as are bodyweight squats, thrusters (see above link), etc. I use burpees: squat down, kick your legs out, do a pushup, return to squat and jump up explosively (high and fast).

Now do this: go for 20 seconds as hard/fast as you can, then rest for 10 seconds. This is one set. Do 8 sets, for a total of 4 minutes. Add on 5 min. to warm up / cool down, and your daily workout is 15 minutes. Do this 3-6x/week. Your score is the number of reps in your worst set.

Here is the catch: when it says "as hard/fast as you can," that means MOVE YOUR BODY AS FAST AND AS HARD AS YOU POSSIBLY CAN. And when it says "rest 10 seconds," that means not 1ms longer. There is an online timer here that can easily be used for this.

There is simply no way to describe how intense this is. I am dead serious when I say you should start off very slowly and acclimate yourself. There is genuine risk if you go into this cold, without a good athletic base.

Well, there it is. In closing, there is simply no way to change your body without pushing yourself hard. Anyone who says different is selling something.

P.S. Intense intervals are way better than steady-state. You can read the research, but it's easier to just try them both and observe your body's reactions.

P.P.S. Tabata is the best thing ever for smokers, but it's gonna hurt!

P.P.P.S. Body fat is mostly about diet. This will help, but you should look carefully at what you're eating.

Just move around strenuously for ~10-20seconds... your heart rate should go up unless you're idea of strenuous is someone else's laziness. Do shuttle runs, get a jump rope and do sets for 30-60seconds. You could even shadow box and get a reaction.

I tell you what, I'm gonna attach my workouts so you'll never run short of anything to do. just be consistent and follow through stuff. It's not even a matter of doing things right as much as you do it correct enough to not hurt yourself and just trust your judgement. they're just to make you move around in different direction and get you used to, well moving, instead of leading this sedentary lifestyle that oh so many ppl lead nowadays.

Find the agility series and use that if you want to raise your heart beat. don't give yourself anymore than 30seconds of rest.

Unless your heart is that of a horse's then you should have no problem raising your heart beat.

ah, im not trying to convince you of anything. in fact, im pretty much against gym memberships - they are all ripoffs, and being at the gym annoys me most of the time (too many people just hanging out, talking on cell phones, grilling you, etc.)

but if i didnt have a gym membership, i would be going right home after work and jumping onto the computer, which was not helping me at all.

unfort, if you dont run or ride a bike, your aerobic options are very limited.

Where are you guys at that gyms are so expensive?
The gym I go to is $19/month. Get a free 1hr session with a personal trainer each month, free classes like yoga and cardio-kickboxing and... something else that's cool.
The only thing I don't dig about the place is that it's lacking a steam room and pool.
But honestly, it's damn good for $19/mo.

if there's something you don't understand in those papers then just ignore it. chances are if you don't know what it's saying then it'll probably injure you... ex: seated BNP... behind neck press.. don't do.. just avoid this one altogether. Hanging double leg eagles... these would probably be the most painful exercise you ever do and you'll never get used to them... you hang from a pullup bar, and jack-knife your body at your hips to bring your legs to one arm/side then down then to the other arm/side...

the warm protocol is nice. if you're an out of shape schlum who sits down a lot like a lot of people do nowadays then you'll find those warmups nice. They'll get your biomechanics to be a bit more harmonious than just doing static workouts.

The stretching is great, but everything on there is in a certain order so don't do a body building workout randomly choosing lifts, bc you won't get the desired effect and don't do the stretch routine randomly either.

You could just take an aerobics kickboxing course and you'll get the same desired effects. you'll be better overall and have someone encouraging you along the way. these exercises i've given are nice but only if you can follow through with them. I wouldn't do the body building every day but I'd do a warm up every day.

any questions then just PM me.

Get on that machine that when you move your arms it moves those 2 bars infront that you hold with your arms so it's a full body workout.

Believe me, if that doesn't get you breathing hard and your heart racing, nothing will.
