Improving my flexibility and balance
    #8501048 - 06/08/08 06:49 PM (15 years, 9 months ago)

I enjoy skateboarding, moutain biking, motocross, climbing, gymnastics.. pretty much anything that gets my heart going.

I'm in reasonably good shape and I'm what I would call 'averagely flexible' and have better balance than most of the people I know.

I would like to become more flexible and improve my balance.. In combination with working out a little bit to improve my strength; I figure it would benefit me exponentially in any of these activities.

So how do I go about it  ?

Start exploring joint mobility exercises. You'll find them more direct and quicker to the result you want than yoga.

Do you have any links?

Most of the stuff I found on google wanted me to buy dvds / was pretty incomplete

@MOTH, I was thinking about looking into yoga, or maybe some other method of physical meditation like Tai chi chuan .

Thanks!  I've been feeling so monkey-like the past few weeks that I've been really determined to start getting more flexible.

The results are quick if you give it about 20 min a day practice. I use it to warm up for my daily workout. It is a great injury preventer. Yoga is great, but months of study can often only produce slight results without an instructor. I did yoga for a year with some success, but a month of this produced more and better results.
