Feature request: Displaying signatures

I would like a feature that allows me to view signatures selectively.

I always have "view signatures" turned off because they contain redundant information that steals screen space from the contents of postings (unlike the avatar images, which also are redundant but they don't steal screen space in the same way since they are displayed in a separate column).

This works great for me most of the time, but once in a while some poster uses his or her signature to actually communicate information that is relevant to the thread, for example a link to a favorite grow tek, and then refer to "the URL in my sig" in their post. I would like to have some easy way to display the signature in such situations, without having to change my global preferences.

How about showing a user's signature on their profile page? That page is only one click away from their post, so it's easy to access that way.

So you are going to review people's signatures on a case by case basis?

I'm gonna have to scoff at this idea.
