Found in mulch... LBMs or something interesting?

These were growing in mulch at an apartment complex. Mulch there has neat stuff like slime molds and various shrooms at any given time.

Anyway, would like an ID

Black sporeprint, tan cap, gills attached only at top of stem. Stem is woody/firm and reddish inside but thin and breaks fairly easily. They don't disintegrate like some others I've found, but they don't hold up to much bending. Very round. I found another that was more open and wider that looked to be the same species. I can post pics of that one, but it was raining when I got home so I left it in the car.

These are a bit dried out now, but still look about the same as they did. They aren't hygrowhatever. :smile:






Just wondering. Trying to get a feel for the whole IDing thing. Doing spore prints, identifying gill types, etc.

These mushrooms are members of the Panaeolus genus, maybe Panaeolus foenesecii.

Panaeolina foenisecii has brown spores, This mushroom has black spores. Yes, it is a species of Panaeolus.

thanks. hrm... i was hoping for something else (pan subs, though they weren't "wet" enough), but I knew they weren't copes or cubes. Oh well... the more I learn about this the better off I am.
