GB question

I am going to build my wife her personal GB and I don't want to use those dish washing gloves (too clumsy and too much hassle) so I read that I can just cut holes in the box roughly the size of my arms and wear latex gloves with thoroughly cleaned arms to reach in and do my inoculations that way. Well I'm a big guy and there's no way I'm gonna get my arms in holes cut for the little lady and she could fit both arms in mine. So I'm wondering if this kind of GB would be as sterile as one with sealed gloves attached to the box. I plan to move up to grain after a couple of PF batches so would this be sterile enough to do G2G and petri dishes ect.

I would not do gtg or dishes in a unsealed glove box.

Gloveboxes are not, and need not be sterile. They only provide a draft free place to work, so that the wind does not blow contaminants into your work. I use one with simply having holes cut for my arms. I wear latex gloves and tyvek wrist sleeves, which fit snugly when my arms are inserted.

If you want to only use one glovebox, I'd suggest cutting the holes large enough for your arms, and then cut some plastic to fit around the hole with slices so that it closes the gap most of the way when the lady uses it. You could also simply buy two rubbermaid containers to use for gloveboxes and make one for her with smaller holes. The boxes are only $6 to $10 each, so it won't break the bank to have two of them.

Here's a picture of our fellow moderator Roadkill using my glovebox, so you can get an idea of how the tyvek sleeves and open holes work.

I already have a glove box suitable for myself, all I need to do is remove the gloves that I so hate anyway, and get another one for her and we're set, thanks.

RR I looked up an old post with pics of Roadkills still air GB and I see that he has some kind of filter attached to the side of it for fumes I suppose. Is this necessary as I don't see one on the pic you have posted above?
