Music of the Dharma

What music for you represents the Heart best? What opens you up to the mystical emotion, clears the cobwebs in your head?

The song "A Path With Heart" by David & Steve Gordon is perhaps my favorite. (Thanks to Huehuecoyotl for sending it to me.) Also the music of Shpongle, The Grateful Dead, Phil Lesh, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers I find spiritually moving and thought-provoking. And any really soulful female singer.

I would be interested in hearing what some of the older members of the P&S forum love to listen to.

Borknagar, In Flames, Tool, Godsmack, Metallica, Alice In Chains, A Perfect Circle, Nevermore, Opeth, Children of Bodom, Dimmu Borgir, Dark Tranquillity, KoRn, Symphony X, Iron Maiden... As well as psy-trance, ambience type stuff, Native American flute music, flamenco music....

Ah, I don't have the heart for metal most of the time. (Stereotyping, no doubt.) Psy-trance and Native American flute music sound more up my alley. Any specific recommendations on those fronts?

On the subject of CDBaby...while on that site, check out Bustan Abraham. It's a band of artists from divergent religious backgrounds of the Middle East, joined together in the attempt to soften (or even end) the generations of Hate that pervade the region. Very good listening.

And, on the note of ending generations of hate, there are Aaverage Joes in the region with the same end in mind. They have a sort of "foreign exchange" program going on where youths go to live in the homes of their "hated enemy" for awhile. Most of these youths come to realize that their "enemy" is not as different as they have been led to believe. Enlightening stuff.
