On being a Teacher

Someone recently told me it was OK to be a total asshole and hurt another for a laugh. When asked why, this person responded that he/she did it in order to accelerate the other's growth by teaching a lesson and preparing them for harsher lessons ahead.

No folks, this is not 'tough love' as it does NOT come from a place of compassion, but was a rationalization of self-indulgent behavior and a complete disregard for another's pain and just shrugged off.

Your thoughts? (No, I cannot give details - sorry.)

I've always thought that one's actions only reflects how one is feeling about him/herself.

If the student was agreeing to participate in the specific lesson, with forehand knowledge of the teacher's actions and intentions, then it is not indulgent....
Otherwise, the "teacher" would would be like one of the evil villain kung-fu teachers you see in the movies....
But, you get to hate on them for the whole movie, and they always get beat in the end....!    :smile:
