I'd say Growery for a few reasons. If you name it Weedery you'll most likely get a bunch of stupid middle school kids looking around which will most likely cause trouble for the site. Also Weedery sounds like it would get a lot of narc attention just from the name. Growery also fits because it could have many sections to focus on different plants such as Salvia, Cacti, Cannabis, ect not that the Weedery couldn't but it might even out the focus of the site a bit more.

Also, you can guarantee you're going to have a mighty fuckload of kids on any "growery" or "weedery" message board.. and probably a lot of law enforcement attention too no matter what the name, just due to the subject matter. I'm surprised there aren't more pigs around here..

I like the sound of Weedery much better; it rolls off the tongue a lot easier than Growery, which sounds rather awkward when I say the name.

I would say growery but do you really want to start a ganja site after what happened to Overgrow? I know that icmag.com is running strong but that site isn't based in North America either. And if you plan on adding vendor's to sponsor this site it will def draw alot of attention from LEO just my 2 cents.

i would also suggest nixing the idea of a pot site, especially if the servers are going to be in the US...any sort of seed ads and ur going to have instant DEA issues...i will always miss overgrow...

Ythan, I have utmost respect for this site, and what you do for it. My suggestion is that you leave the idea of the Shroomery and a marijuana site separate. Although it is a nice thought to have a Growery, it is based too much on the Shroomery idea, and the majority of people on said Growery wouldn't have a clue unless they came from here first.

I use this website (alongside Erowid) as my top drug-reference material. There is no better vault of knowledge than exists here. I'm not really familiar with mycotopia, but I assume this is a larger community. IMO, there is plenty of cannabis discussion (and of course all our favorite other drugs :yesnod:).

I hope this doesn't break any rules:

So are you talking about changing the Shroomery to the growery/weedery or are you thinking about starting a whole new site called the growery? If your thinking about changing the shroomery I think it's a horrible idea, but if your thinking about starting a new site like the shroomery but for weed that's an excellent idea.

I think growery sounds better than weedery. Growery's got my vote.

The Growery is MUCH better that the Weedery. Weedery itself just sounds bad, Growery has a way better ring to it.

I really like the above poster's suggestion of The Pottery. It's cloaked, it's silly, its fun and it doesn't take itself too seriously.


Of the below list I like The Reefery best, the website can be designed a bit in oldtime chic Reefer Madness style. Second to it is Growery and third Pottery.

I voted growery as well, weedery does sound gay, i agree, but don't you think that setting up a site for pot is going to be pushing it? It may end up getting this site closed as well. Plus all the otd kids will go over to the growery & it will get really nerdy here, just a bunch of serious guys in lab coats, milling around & fondeling beakers & such & getting labeled as extreamists.

Weedery is limiting.

It also is drug slang which brings up two points.

One for liability reasons, you wouldn't want to have a site based solely on cultivation of a controlled substance.

Two, it limits what those looking at would think it contains, if you chose to have more than just cannabis based sub-forums.

I don't know if I'd chose growery either though, it sounds...off.

1stly, Overgrow was closed for illegal activities, not for the fact it was a marijuana site.

The owner(s) engaged in illegal activities, and by that fact had to obviously close their website.

Information is not illegal, everything the Shroomery does is within the letter of the law. How do I know this? Well we PAY people to confirm this.

Now you ask, the CRAZY admins who want to put up a pot site (btw there are like 1000 of them worldwide if not 100,000).

We talked to our lawyer, we know what is safe, we know what puts us in a grey area, we know whats illegal.

There are many thousands of marijuana websites out there, overgrow was busted not for the topic; but for the actions of the ownership and illegal activities they partook in.

We are not dumb, we have run the Shroomery for 10 years. There is no way in hell, our weed site will attract any more attention that the other 100,000 weed sites on the internet, nor more than Erowid or other HUGE websites that offer information on illegal drugs.

So drop the paranioa, and think about it; we are not stupid and we are not in any danger unless laws change.. And IF laws change, we'll know well in advance and we'll move our shit offshore.

exactly. tons of other weed sites.

shroomery.org is really the best online community for shrooms. it has a good thing going. don't mess it up by merging the forums closely together. imo it could ruin it. it's so successful because of course because of the people running it but also because its so specific and not a huge broad website.

i'm all for growery.org/weedery.org i just hope it doesn't get merged closely together with shroomery. i personally think they shouldn't have anything to do with each other, or if possible give people the option.

Nothing negative about it.  I just think that Growery implys the wrong image.  If in fact the growery is to be like the Shroomery in its mission statement, then I think that weedery fits the image much better.

compare it to yahoo shutting down the user created chat rooms, the grateful dead chat room there, that once was a huge hippy commuity, is now an embaarassing void.

If this place here became more prayed upon, & shut down, then more folks would just be set adrift online.

No, because we are doing nothing illegal. If we were closed for providing information on mushrooms, the internet would face the closing of 1000's of drug websites; hell even websites unrelated to drugs.

There are numerous sites out there watching for laws being considered that could hurt freedom of information on the internet, they are the first line of defense and are often run by internet law experts who will goto WAR if they saw the start of a bill that would change the way we see the internet.

This isn't a case of "oh this site is small, we won't close them down." Sorry but the LEO isnt that nice, if we were doing anything illegal, we'd be shut down; simple.

The people who run the shroomery, 10yrs old now; have had legal representation and advice for the last 5-6 years of our existance to ensure we are never putting ourselves at risk.

Overgrow was not closed for being a website about marijuana, I don't know how to put it any clearer.

We do not put up a website about marijuana without being sure that we are not putting ourselves in any personal danger.

Until a law is passed that makes information on illegal drugs illegal, we have little to concern ourselves with. Even IF in the future such laws would ever get passed (highly unlikely) we have contingeancy plans in place to move servers, incorp offshore, etc..
