You could keep those lids tight so the cakes don't dry out!

For what reason at all are some ?guides? telling the beginner to unscrew lids after spore injection if it works as well if you leave them tight? Or does the ?could?mean that it was just a thought which came into your mind?

Isn?t there any other advice sombody could give me. I injected the spore syringe ( p. cubensis) last thursday and do still wait for the first mycelium growth to appear. Till now it seems like there is no contamination or can?t I tell that yet?

I usually leave my lids loose for gas exchange of the mycelium, although it doesn't matter so much at first because the mycelium isn't there yet. And contamination shouldn't be too hard to spot if it appears.

Yeah, if you're not getting the first colonization it doesn't have to do with air exchange. Air only might matter later on. I might loosen the lids at 90% when the mycel really seems to slow down.

What is your temperature? It may take me three or four days to see mycel at 84-86 F. But at room temp I've had jars sit around for weeks inactive. (and when I heated them, mycel kicked in a few days later.) But if the jars sit around so long after innoculation with no mycel growth, contam rates shoot up.

My glasses stand in a bathroom with room temp. Can anybody tell me how much 85F are in celcius? How do you heat your jars?
