Everyone Should Clone or Isolate Mycelium
    #6828285 -

I have finally seen my first Double Tub display really diverse characteristics in its genetics. I notice at least 3 different varying genetics in one tub. This is from a Multispore LC. I thought they would all combine into 1, but i guess not. I have blank spots in my casing layer because of a myc battle.

My recommendation, isolate mycelium or clone it.

I have yet to see a mycelium battle :shitstorm:  :rockets:  I do agree that we all should start looking into isolations or cloning,I for one have yet to really get on it and still favor lc over any thing else but I do look forward to getting some of those picture perfect canopy flushes that only isolates can produce

This is true.

The first grow I've ever done in my life, yielded nice, straight, tall fruits. The problem with these guys was that they were hollow. I took prints of the best looking specimen(s). Soon, I inoculated jars with one of those prints and the results were much different. Even with the same parameters and bulksubstrate material, the second round with spores created relatively shorter, twisty (like twizzlers to a lesser degree), and notably.. they were SOLID. Stems were meaty as hell.

Agreed! This is how the pros do it! This gives you the best control over things such as size, potency, aggressiveness of the myc as well as just how prolific your pinsets will be.

How do you know you got the ones with the best genetic predisposition to high potency unless you clone & grow them all.
(When you are growing killer buds you can see & smell when you should clone it.)

You isolate strains and save a master from each one. After the harvest and testing of each and every isolate, you go back to your well marked strain masters in the refrigerator and get out the best ones to grow, while discarding the poor performers. Properly prepared master slants will last for years in the refrigerator, allowing you to continue to grow the same isolate.

Thanks RR Sounds thorough, Cloning, growing & testing them all, I thought that would be the only way to be sure.
Thats a lot of shrooms to test.

You must have a fridge load of slants. Which would be confusing even when marked.

Just curious.
Whats the most amount of sub strains you have gotten out of one strain. Cubes & edibles.?

Every time monokaryotic mycelium mates with a compatible hyphae, a 'strain' is born. That is the definition of 'strain', not the name somebody wrote on the sporeprint. This means that one swipe of spores from a print onto agar can easily yield dozens, if not hundreds of strains.

Wait one minute...

You have to eat them to test for potency?

I thought just fruiting them and picking the strains with the best flushes and highest yields was the final step.

Is there really going to be that big of a difference in potency?

I'm not even sure how one would test for potency unless one waited 4 weeks between tests. That would take me 2 years to test my isolates. Even then, one trip from one strain can vary big time from the next trip even if it's from the same strain/flush.

Maybe I'm missing something.

Look at the atoms in the air and allow your mind to see the other planes that coexists in the same physical space where you sit. There are vibrational strings in each and every atom containing infinite realities, universes, and dimensions. Multidimensional beings and entities are RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU!!! Only gravity and mental energy can pass through these different atomic branes and mushrooms can break the mental/spiritual membranes separating one reality from the other. TAKE A LOOK!

Thats crazy.
You may have to grow a single print 10 or more times to see all it has to offer.
Agar, agar everywhere, Petri dishes in the sink.

Do you think that some strains wouldn't appear unless agar work is done.

I mean when a LC or multispore inoculation are done the number of strains would go down as all the strains compete.
You may be left with the fastest most aggressive strains, but not necessarily the most potent.

P.S.
Excuse my poor grasp of some terminology.

That's correct. I've used up an entire box of 500 petri dishes before on one sproreprint. All strains have to be tested for the qualities you seek. I'll leave the 'how' up to you.
