What species poppy?
    #6800126 - 04/17/07 02:57 PM (17 years, 4 days ago)

These poppies are growing in my grandmas wildflower patch. I was wondering if someone could tell me what species.

Hard to say, there are so many varieties.. It isn't a paeoniflorum and I don't recognize it as any other somniferum either... Could be though, I'm no expert..

I was going to post it on one of those poppy forums but that would be too much work; registering and what not.

this thread should have all the info you need:
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/4016111/an/0/page/0

just scratch the outer skin with a knife or a needle(be sure not to cut to deep or the sap will pour into the pod and be lost).. Collect as much as you can. most common is to score them in the morning and let the sap dry on the pods during the day and then scrape it into a vial.

I believe 5 pods should be about one dose but that depends on a lot of things...

Just smoke untill you have had enough(don't do it to fast, OD'ing is bad)..
If you smoke more than you would hash it's probably the wrong species..

Thanks Nast, but I think its the wrong species. Got some of the milky sap and dried it on foil before scraping it into my pipe and smoking it. No effects.
Oh well, there are some opium poppies growing on campus at my university but I dont have the cajones to walk up there and take them.
Ill probably grow my own one day but I am in no hurry.

top looks like a Papaver rhoeas with it's double petals. How big are the blooms?

The first picture is a shirley poppy (P. rhoeas) and the second two are definitely P. somniferum
