Well no wonder, a North Korean trying to major in English? He was bound for failure.

He was South Korean.

Either way he was doomed to fail.

Where are the super macho NRA concealed carrying republicans in this?

I wouldn't be surprised if there were people here and in Columbine who had a gun in their pocket but just laid low instead of being a hero.

Both incidents happened in a no carry zone. Noone, not even security guards had guns.

If someone from the NRA were there,
He may not have been stopped, but there damn sure wouldn't be 33 dead.

Hey OK, I didn't know that. I'm just frustrated that hardly any spree killings are ever ended by bystanders. People stay put and are killed off one by one

I can't tell if you are a proponent of regular people carrying guns or not in reading the above posts...

What are your thoughts?

I just heard on the Dutch news that in Virginia a 12yo can walk into a gunstore and buy a gun. Thats a bit wild for me.

I believe that the "regular people" interested in carrying a gun should be thoroughly screened and psychologically tested, and if they pass this thorough test then they can get a permit to carry a gun, provided the psychological test has to be updated every two years or so. They should also have a special training for intervening in crime situations.

I live in a country where there's no such option, and in some places in the US you basically fill in a form that states you're OK and that's it.

I'm for the possibility of concealed carrying, as long as is assured that the right people are being armed. It can be a useful extension of the police force to "deputize" carefully screened and properly trained civilians.

I think that "the right people" would not object to the hassle of acquiring and upgrading this permit, especially when it is subsidized by the state because it partially amounts to public service.

In the time between the beginning of the crime and the arrival of sufficient police on the scene to deal with it, a level-headed upstanding citizen with a gun can do a lot to contain the severity of the crime, even without firing a single shot.

I'm totally against the general population arming itself. But I'm all for "the right people" having a concealed gun, and being trained to intervene when shit hits the fan.

I'm very strict as to who "the right people" are. I myself wouldn't be one, lacking confidence and cool that would be needed in moments of such extreme stress.

Just to clarify-- for the arguements sake--

http://www.nraila.org/statelawpdfs/VASL.pdf

Lies make me sad-- from whatever side they're on. If you see the law as written, no one under 18 may possess a firearm in Virginia or any other state.

Europeans have an extremely distorted and propagandized view of gun use in the US--and that Dutch article is a perfect example of blatant distortion to further a political opinion.

I appreciate your views very much-- it's nice to hear some objective thought on the topic-- I am a pro-gun person, but I feel that so many people are under-educated about the 24,000+ laws that exist FOR FIREARMS ALONE in the US, that they believe in the wild-west image their newspapers feed them.

I implore people who think organizations like the NRA are automatically bad, evil things, to see past the scaremongering BS and look at the issue as it really is-- look at the reality, not the hyperbole.

I'm not going to dive too far into a pro-gun argument-- I don't have the time to type it all, hehe.. but I strongly believe that guns are not the problem, despite all the hyperventilating about them in the media, and laws eliminating them have done more harm than good in the countries that endlessly preach them-- examining the real crime figures in those countries would surprise those who are currently ignorant of the numbers...

If anyone's interested, look at this site: http://www.guncite.com/ to learn more about a variety of gun-related issues.

Take the time to see all sides, and learn all facts, before passing judgement on a controversial issue...

:peace::cheers:

have any sources for your information about being able to buy a gun after filling out a form if your 12?? when you buy a gun there is a couple days before you can actually pick it up and that is because the FBI is investigating you before they let you have a gun..

and a psychological test is unnecessary... they are really easy to fake ie "Would you ever go on a rampage shooting anyone in site" answer "hhhmmmm.... ya, why not?"
