Diagnosing and fixing a HPS ballast

Ok, so i have a hydrofarm 430 watt HPS ballast that went south on me. Checked on my babies sometime last month and the bulb was only emitting a purple glow. I'm thinking that it's the capacitor that blew but im not sure. I know it's not the bulb because i had it tested at the hydro shop and it lit up just fine.

How do i diagnose a broken ballast and once i do find the problem is it easy enough for someone with a slight electronics background to fix? I'm not scared of fucking the ballast up, i already upgraded to a 600 watt lamp, but if i can salvage this 430 watter it'll save me 200 bucks when i move into my new place with more room.
