A Spider On the Wall

Imagine that you're in a large, empty warehouse. You're standing in the middle of this dark warehouse, its walls void of any remote signs of light. However, there is one speck of light, and it is a circle of light illuminating a spider that is resting on the floor.

Now, from your position, you can undoubtedly claim that there is a spider in the room, since you can see a spider resting on the floor in front of you. But, what if you were to say that there are no other spiders in the warehouse, that the spider you saw is the only spider in the warehouse?

Well, to be able to claim that that is the only spider in the warehouse means that you know every speck and detail of the warehouse; you have analyzed and memorized every square inch of your surroundings.

This analogy leads you to wonder, how can we really claim to know such things as "there is no God" or "there are no other forms of intelligent life in the universe." From our current position in the universe, we know very little, so it is wise for us to not draw conclusions based on such stilted knowledge.

It's interesting to realize, the more you know, the more you realize how much you don't know.

Anyways, I have to get to my biology class. These are just some thoughts I had.

What do you guys think?

I think nobody here stated that it's a fact that there is no God.
But it's a fact that we're out of solid arguments which can prove there's a God.

I don't think any thoughtful person claims to know anything for sure. But you can have your suspisions.:thumbup:

I don't think that any intelligent person would attempt to prove a negative like that.

Rather he/she would say "There isn't any proof for these things...but there sure isn't proof against them!" and place the said items (god, aliens, ect.) firmly in the grounds of "could be's". If you were to then show proof for these things, they would change their mind.
