Walls; division

Let's think about walls (walls, gates, fences) for a minute.

We all know the purpose of a wall or gate or fence is to keep something in/out. Even if the intention is only to keep one certain thing in or out, it is essentially doing both; by keeping one thing in (from getting out), it is also keeping one or more things from getting in [intentionally or unintentionally]. So walls create division, separation.

While sometimes [temporary] separation is healthy for persons/peoples, permanent separation tends to be unhealthy for the/a community (mistrust of neighbors, [excessive] pride/nationalism, [insert your own word here]).

Starting, walls were nothing more than rock and/or clay (and some still are). Most of these walls didn’t need to look even and exact, they just needed to do “their job”, keep something in and/or keep something out, divide. Now, walls are made and/or sold (imagine, a wall-maker :smile:

) frequently. Division, in style, is sold to us, pressed on us (fear in some cases), and sometimes required by others. So now, in many different locations, instead of being one body of people, there are hundreds, thousands, and even millions of people dividing further. Even among families, what is supposed to be the closest order of community, several dividers can and do arise; both mental walls and physical walls.

Interestingly enough, at work next week (getting things going for Christmas) we are going to eliminate two feature displays from the action alley in order to fence in an area in which we will dump all sorts of toys, so that all these children will go nuts in there.

This is a wall that I am in favor of, because if it helps my zoning out in the department itself just a bit, then its entirely worth it. :lol:

We'll even dump in there our store use Tickle Me Elmo that got all dirty from rolling around on the floor. :smirk:

And what exactly is your point?

Ultimately, we're divided not only by walls, but by the phenomenological nature of our experiences.

Singularity is nice, but so is having a personal perspective. Walls don't create divisions - walls are the construct nature of division, which exists de facto and which we make manifest in the form of walls.

Walls are not the cause of divide. Walls are the result.
