Oh, everyone puts up with things they dislike. I just mean in the school/work world, persistence in the face of suckiness is absolutely necessary.

The thing about schools and jobs, or really any kind of commitment where you're giving up some of your mobility and independence; you have to believe in what you're doing to enjoy it. That doesn't mean you have to deeply believe in the importance of doing tech support or being a carpenter or whatever, but it has to engage you in some way. Whether it sparks an interest or simply gives you some sense of accomplishment or satisfaction.

For school in particular if you're not going to school for something, then you're just paying to do work towards a goal you're only luke warm about at best. Figure out what you want to do with your life, find your passion, your interest, your purpose and then match your strengths to that. When you know the answer to that big puzzler, if schooling is part of the path then it will no longer seem empty or pointless.

Hope that helps.

school DOES work otherwise the system wouldnt be in place. Sure, it has problems, lots of them, but you dont have to respect the system to attend.
I treat school as just a stepping stone. If you put it on a pedestal of expectations and actualy believe that grades indicate intelligence or that every class you take will DIRECTLY benefit your life, you will be let down or worse. School is just a phase. Learning is life long. You know this.
Dont let laziness to do the busiwork designed for the masses knock you off your path. besides, you cant travel the world without disposable income, and living paycheck to paycheck is a harsh way to spend your time on Earth.

Education is a rather useful tool in ones quest for knowledge, wouldn't you agree?

Yeah, high school is lame, just finish it you'll thank yourself later.

Put up with things you dont want to?!?!?!?!?! See even those in favour of schooling admit its the tool of the government to get us used to being treated like shit for the real world so that we dont get all pissed off and riot... or hell even protest or try to change personally but i digress.

I dropped out of school about a month after I turned 16. Didnt get a job, I tried but not too hard. It was a great life with days spent skating wandering aimlessly around playing guitar.. it was great. ive returned to different high schools uhm something like 3 or 4 of them but could never really put up with it for more then a month.
One experiences a much broader range of experience when not in school.

when its a little warmer out im planning of setting off with my pack to wherever. not sure how it'll go and that excites me so much, some fear the unknown but i wish to know it.

school... never going back, way too fucken uptight about everything
from now on im working to stay unemployed

The bottom line (with some exceptions);

If you don't want to be broke, stuck working a shitty job the rest of your life, school is the best thing you can possibly do for yourself.

Of course, there are people who go to school who still end up in shitty jobs/ broke, and there are people without an education who end up rich as fuck... but the general trend doesn't favor you.

I go to school mostly for the great potential financial stability so I actually CAN travel

I don't have enough patience to go bohemian

I've never seen "pointless school" argument that's been adequately justified

Thanks for the encouragement guys. I was a bit depressed earlier, but I'm feeling great now. I agree with most of things said in favor of schooling.

I shouldn't even be stressed because I know I've passed the test. I made a few mistakes that I should not have made, I was really pissed off about it.

Thanks.

In all seriousness, that's subjective. For example, during HS while school was in session I am exposed to many more options to do various things than during the summer break. I just sit around and waste away during the summer (which I'm far more than happy with.)

School has opened up many opportunities for me. I can honestly say that I enjoy learning new things and consistently challenging myself. This has extended to the job I do now. At the end of my workday I always feel content knowing I was productive and working towards my potential.

Then I collect my paycheck and do the other things the OP said, I enjoy my free time, travel and the other fruits of my labor.

Oh give it a rest. Having a job is not the end of the world, I wish you hippies would realize this. I actually feel good about myself when I'm employed, not like I'm wasting my time. In every day and every age, people have had to put up with things they don't want to. We live in a time where people have, on average, more free time than they've ever had before. I said it's a "life skill", meaning it will help you in most elements of your existence. I can't imagine a sane, comprehensive argument to be "against schooling" as a whole. I'm gonna quote a library poster: knowledge is power.

Personally, I've lost faith in the school system. I've seen people do 98% on a geography test, but were amazed to find out that there were cars in Europe. In my english class, the teacher asked if anyone knew who Edgar Allen Poe was; only me and another guy raised our hand out of 30 people. I mean, Edgar Allen Poe for christ sakes!

School is not a gauge of intelligence. The way I look at it, from kindergarten to 8th grade you'll actually learn stuff like basic maths and comprehension skills. When you get to high school, it will be to mold you into something society can use.

I went to a french school, and I'd be held after class almost every day for speaking english to my friends. School is good. High school is the biggest plop of shit that I've ever seen.

However, I do agree that it's good to complete. Because it will just make your life so much easier in the long run. Not because it's useful, but it's made that you need it.

there is so much bs in school that just doesn't need to be there. if they take out the bs, school could be shorter, which would probably motivate more students to actually finish their homework and study.

i also think it depends on the teachers. some teachers just have that monotone voice and attitude that just puts you to sleep, others get your mind going.

Who's to say knowing who Poe is means you're intelligent. Being able to think well and critically is about the only way to judge intelligence fairly. There is always knowledge people aren't going to know, and yes, school teaches that. But school also is the best way I've ever come across to figure out how to think critically and analytically.

I should have 60 hours under my belt in May, but I feel I am wasting my time now.

College is a place to go to learn how to make money and network with people, that's it. It only perpetuates where we currently stand.
