Dr Seuss - 'The Lorax' video on google video

This is the video of The Lorax by Dr Seuss. I found it in full on google videos. Great environmental story. Features truffula trees that are used by the Once-lers to make their thneeds (things all people need). Once-lers are the corporate family who manufacture thneeds. I think they are called 'Once-lers' because they once were, because their truffula trees are no more. Also has 'barbaloots' who eat the truffula fruits, among other creatures, and of course the Lorax the legendary critter who speak for the trees! :smile: Great story. It goes for 25 minutes. The intro (first 2 minutes) is a bit slow, but after that it's good.

As a small child I had this on VHS tape. Its pretty serious stuff, seeing the once thriving environment, and the desolation that came after the Once-lers came and depleted the only resource. I don't think I got the "global message" when I was a kid, but it does a good job of instilling that into a child.

I think I also had the original book, in a first edition printing.

It's a great story, hey. I had Yertle the Turtle when I was a kid but I didn't understand that it was an anti-totalitarian story. If my parents understood that, they wouldnt have explained it to me the way Dr Seuss meant it because they are very politically conservative, and probably would have taken the perspective of Yurtle on top of the turtle heap, rather than Mack.

Apparently Dr Seuss drew political cartoons for a left wing newspaper before he started writing kids stories.

I was looking for a torrent of Seuss books before, I don't think anybody has scanned them though.

A weird thing is the name Seuss is actually pronounced rhyming with voice, not juice.

I don't think I've ever even seen this video before though.

Whats your source on the pronunciation. I always thought (and have never before heard differently) that it rhymed with "moose".

Edit:A search found that it is pronounced "ZOYCE", with no "s" sound to start it. But I don't think I could ever call it that.
