 Ear Infection Remedies

So I've had this ear infection for about 5 days now. The 2nd day my hearing pretty much went out so I decided to go to the doctor. He put me on a z-pack (azithromycin) to knock it out of me. 3 days into these antibiotics it actually feels WORSE. Is that normal? It sounds like there is a bunch of water in my ear or something.
If any of you have had an ear infection, what did you do to help the annoyance? I just took some Pentazocine to help curve the pain.

The Z packs are the best out there (Zithromax?) If it's Zithromax, stick with it, I still get 4-5 ear infections a year, which is really weird since I'm not an infant. Usually I just advil/codeine myself up for a day or two and the pain is gone and they go away, but if they don't I go to the doctor and he gives me the Zithromax, and that always works. Takes a little while, but they're better than having to swallow 2 pills a day for fucking 3 weeks. I also can't use amoxicilin (sp?) because I'm allergic.
So yeah, stick with the pills, take them like you're supposed to, and you'll be fine after a little while.

Hot showers.
Place a rag in hot water and ring it out, lay down and put it over your ear. Try to sleep through it.
If it gets worse, go back and you may get it punctured to drain it. I had that happen to me when I was a kid. I had chronic ear infections and ear tubes too.
Ear infections are about the only thing that can happen to me that will turn me into a little bitch.

Oh and when I was a kid I found playing Madden '94 on my SNES took my mind off the pain.

Smoking weed last night was a bad idea as well.
It made my ear ache even worse and even made my neck ache. I'm stupid for smoking while I have this so I don't plan on doing it again.

Cigarette smoke makes ear infections more likely, fyi.
I used to get ear infections all the time, starting when I was just a baby and had a perforated ear drum due to one. I've since figured out that after showering/swimming/etc, I blot dry my ears w/tissue paper and blow dry them as well. It's kind of annoying but it a) keeps my ears clean b) prevents ear infections. Hope that helps.
As for the infection you have now, tell your doctor if the AB's aren't working.

I don't smoke cigarettes. I'm sometimes around people who do though. What about weed smoke?

Any kind of foreign, particulate matter that damages the cilia and other inner defenses of the ear and eustachian tube. I imagine pot smoke would fall into this category, though whether it's as bad as cigarette smoke I have no idea.
