Yes, it works.  Works on cats, too.  To avoid freaking them out or doing any damamge you need to be gentle and exhale slowly.  But it works.

As a matter of fact, blowing smoke into a dogs ear does work. The dog's ear is different from a humans such that it has no ear drum, just an Auditory tube which goes straight to the cerebral cortex. So marijuana smoke would pass through this tube directly to the THC receptors (yes most mammals are born with THC receptors. If Marijuana was so bad then why would our bodies prepare for its intake?) that are in the dogs brain.

Thank you and have a good night.

Like a lot of the posters on here have said, for God's sake don't blow smoke in a dog's EARS. If the dog likes smoke then blow it in his face but not his EARS. If you really want to get your dog high I suggest making brownies. Put some beef in there. What do you think is in a Scoobie snack anyway?

Actually Dogs naturally will reject smoke, of any kind. They do not like the taste, smell, or anything about it. Therefore having smoke go through a dog's nose or mouth might cause the dog to assosiate weed or whatever youre giving him with the discomfort of having smoke blown at him. So in reality, the ear is the way to go. See below:

blowing smoke in a dogs ear definitely works to get them high.  For sure.  Im not sure about the exact science but many dogs have a flap on there ear that is literally there to collect scent.  somehow the ear is connected to the nasal passage.  Many of my friends do this with there dogs, and I have definitely seen many get nice a stoned.

Ha. It cracked me up.

The guy with the story about cats who want to get high is totally right!
Animals who have gotten stoned before and liked it... will hang around while you're smoking. They know what's up.

Your dog wont get high and your friend is a douche for trying. The smoke wouldnt even make it past the ear drums because of the thin membrane that is there. :facepalm3:

I must say the most he will do is ruin his dogs sensitive ears. Tell him to quit and find something better to do whilst getting stoned.....

THE TRUTH FROM A VETERINARIAN [Re: RespectTheFungus]
    #20184776 - 06/25/14 02:47 PM (9 years, 5 months ago)

PLEASE READ THIS POST, SOME OF THE OTHER ADVICE ON HERE COULD SERIOUSLY HARM YOUR PET! I AM NOT ANTI-STONER PETS, SO READ THIS IF YOU WANT TO GET YOUR PET HIGH SAFELY!!!
No, I'm not a Vet- but my Mother is and I asked her directly. She knows I smoke, I'm an adult and she doesn't care, so she gave me straight answers.

:thumbdown:Do NOT blow smoke in your dog's, or cat's, or snake's, or iguana's, or horse's, or that friend who lives on your couch's (do you see where I'm going with this?) or any other ear!

YES, it is true that blowing smoke in the ears might get the animal high. The ears, eyes, nose, throat and mouth are all connected (If you don't believe me search 'condom challenge' and 'milk from eye' on youtube.), heated pot smoke will be absorbed my the nearest mucous membrane and given the relatively small body size of most pets, there will be effects.

HOWEVER
You might also make your pet really sick. There are germs in our spit and breath and pot smoke isn't hot enough to kill them. You could give your pet (or another human) a very nasty ear infection- if you've never had one, imagine having a rusty crowbar jammed into your brain through your ear and roughly wiggled around one in a while.
The ear maintains itself for the most part, though people with droopy eared dogs (like cocker spaniels) will know that they need help to stay clean. It doesn't like or need any extra moisture or new germs- but when you blow smoke in the ear this is exactly what you put in there and it can cause an infection that will be painful at best, and could cost their hearing- or worse, up to death, if the infection spreads.

If you want to get your pet high, then look below for how to do it right. Naysayers- Pot smoke is not lethal, it doesn't cause cancer etc, therefore just smoking out your pet is not abuse in and of itself. I don't necessarily support smoking out smaller animals, but people are going to do it, they might as well know how to do it safely. Keeping people ignorant is no way to prevent them from doing the 'wrong' thing, it is in fact an assured way to cause people to do more things wrong.
Now, because pot smoke is still smoke, you are exposing your pet to the same risks that you are taking on yourself. The same risks anyone takes who sets any plant matter on fire and inhales the smoke. IF you want to be totally safe with your pet, get a vaporizer- but keep in mind how dang strong those things are. Your pet is not gonna OD from it (unless they're a rodent.. Honestly guys probably don't get rodents high, they're really small), but they can still get too high and suffer from dizziness, nausea, and/or have other unpleasant side effects, and you didn't wanna give them a bad high, right?

Quote:

Cats and cat-sized or smaller: Just fill your mouth with smoke and gently cover their nose until they've taken a couple breaths OR blow towards their nostrils slowly enough that they take a couple breaths. Don't cover and blow it in- the lung difference is too big to risk, could blow out their lungs if you accidentally force too much air in. Yes, that is possible, and it would traumatize you, so be smart. Especially on something really small like a snake or rodent (I honestly wouldn't suggest giving a rodent more than one hit unless it's a capybara.)
When you're done blowing, pull your mouth away fast, they're likely to sneeze. Gently rub the top of their nose because getting a hit through the nose burns a bit at first (try it yourself, you'll see.) so the rubbing feels good.
Praise, pet and use a word for what you're doing. Ie: "Good kitty, good Toke" but do NOT give them treats etc. That would be training them to smoke, and then they're not smoking because they like it, they're smoking to please you and I hope I don't need to explain why that's fucked up. You just want to train a neutral association between the action and the word, not a reward.

Real-dog sized Dogs and bigger: Keeping their size and probable lung capacity in mind!- take a hit, or a mouthful and cover their nose with your mouth, blowing smoke in their nose slowly. Don't blow in both mouth and nose at once, or hard/fast. Leaving the mouth uncovered leaves a 'release', as it were, if you blow too much. If you hear a gurgling/bubbling/raspberry kind of sound it means it's coming out the mouth, so stop. Don't worry, they're not hurt by this, but it means they need to exhale.
When you're done blowing, pull your mouth away fast, they're likely to sneeze. Gently rub the top of their nose because getting a hit through the nose burns a bit at first (try it, you'll see.) so the rubbing feels good.
Praise, pet and use a word for what you're doing. Ie: "Good boy, good Toke." but do NOT give them treats etc. That would be training them to smoke, and then they're not smoking because they like it, they're smoking to please you and I hope I don't need to explain why that's fucked up. The point of the praise and word-association is first, so they don't think the smoke is a punishment (with no context it would seem like one at first). But it's mainly so later, you can ASK them if they want to smoke, and respect their choice. After they learn the word association, you can hold up your piece before smoking, ask "Wanna toke (or whatever your word is) boy?" and you will know whether they liked being high or not by their reaction. Personally, my dog has days where he jumps around like a puppy, excited about smoking and other days where he just looks at me like "Eehhh.. Not today". =)
He also whines and paws my arm when I forget to ask him and start smoking without him, so then I ask "Oh, you wanna toke?" and he'll respond with a bark, usually. Like "DUH! Why do you think I pawed at you and whined when you started without me??"

Just remember to respect them as another being that has an opinion on being high just like you. If they're not interested, don't force it. If they do like it, don't try to make them hold the hit to get high faster or whatever. Just give them more hits till they're uninterested. You know your pet, I'm sure you can tell when they're 'done' with something. Just don't be a douche. Let them stop when they've reached their limit. =)

Oh, animals get cottonmouth and the munchies too, so keep water and healthy pet snacks on hand for after- wait until you're done before you give snacks so they don't associate it as a reward.

This isn't about smoking, but while I'm talking about stoner pet safety- Don't feed your pet weed food/candy/etc- the risk is too great, animals can definitely get sick from eating and ingesting pot-products because they are extracts, the thc concentrations and concentrations of other chemicals are higher. Not all are dangerous to all animals, but it is ridiculously hard to figure out which things are safe for which animal- easier to avoid the whole thing and not risk your pet's life. Stick to smoke/vapor.
