clipping a dogs ears

I have a 4 1/2 month old pure breed all american pit bull terrier. I have had her since she was 2 months old and every one keeps telling me to clip her ears and tail and fix her and all that crap. I get kind of pissed as I look at her like my daughter and I would never do any thing like that to a child so why the fuck would I do that to my baby girl, shes my kid to me

How do you guys feel about it?

I really wasnt asking if I should or not it was more of a statement as I would never do that to a poor innocent dog

but really you think I should fix her?

I mean should you have been fixed when you where little so when you turned 14 you would be easier to handle

I've got a Jack Russell with floppies.

I think they look goofy when their ears are pointing up.

Since you feel sentimental about it, leave her be.

You'll probably save upwards of $200.

It shouldn't affect her value as a breeder, if you even care.

You are not planning on putting her in any dog shows are you?

in the country i live in, cropping the ears or tail is illegal for a good reason.

i think it's so stupid that someone came up with the idea of butchering an animal's body parts in order to make the animal more aesthetically pleasing.

Having their ears pricked up and tail cut off is called "docking". The process must be painful for the dog, because they chop of part of its ear and graft it so they stand upright. People do this to pits and dobermans so they look more "fierce". The reason people cut the tail is because long tails might be bad for the dog, like if it is a farm-working dog and constantly going in and out of gates that might clamp or snag on its tail.

Fixing is a whole different issue, as it isn't painful for the dog, and you don't have to deal with them getting in heat or being impregnated. If your dog had puppies, what would you do with them? Would you be able to find them a good home? If you don't know, getting it fixed might be a good idea.

i've clipped both my pits ears,

it's healthier for them,

helps them avoid ear infection, and I think it looks cool :smile:

but clipping tail? I've NEVER heard of that, and my pit used to be a show dog, that's just obscene.
