Casing

Hey.. I have like 12 pint jars of birdseed colonized and I was just wondering how I should case it?

I have a brick of coir.. a bag of vermiculite, a bag of peatmoss, a bag of perlite, and a bag of worm castings.. I could also get cow dung but I doubt I could find straw.

Btw, I'm semi newbish and succeptable to contamination.

My friend's sister's therapist who saw Ferris pass out at the 31 Flavors last night likes to case using coir.

I was thinking bout like 1/2 cm of moist verm on the bottom then a 1/2 inch of coir on the top.. dunno how much substrate to put in there though.

try 2 to 3 inches of substrate on a 1/2 inch of verm with casing layer being 1/4 the depth of the substrate layer. try to get a hold of some lime (not argricultural CaO hydrated lime) to be used as a ph buffer in the casing. keeps away contams better

I really can't get my hands on that lime unless I buy 20 pounds of it.. so I was wondering if there is anything else I could use?
Baking soda? Crushed up tums?
