Growing in coconut fiber
    #6703362 -

Was thinking of maybe growing some plants in coconut fiber..Will maybe have one or 2 dope plants in coco and a whole bunch of other plants..
Will probably try my luck at growing poppies in coco too..

Could I use the same nutes for my poppies as for my dope?

Other plants I might try in that medium is Catha edulis, Kratom and Salvia Divinorum..

Any thoughts? any of these I should skip?

the khat for sure... it'd be useless unless you plant it in the ground at some point even if it did grow on the coco

(remember it takes about a couple of years for khat to get established and produce enough active ingredients)

other then that i have no experience with coco fiber

I'm pretty sure poppies grow best in a well draining soil. You'd probably have problems with root and stem rot. The seeds might also sink too deep since soir is pretty fluffy. It might work if you add enough sand, but I don't think it'd be optimal.

Nice to hear uare, looking frward to seeing the progress.

bukujutsu : These are blocks of cocos and I was thinking of maybe starting them in jiffy pots and then put them in the cocos, so they won't sink into the medium.
This is the medium I'm planning to try:

I know that a dude over at the nook has had pretty good results growing poppies in hydro so I figure they can take being wet..

I don't think this is coir, rather fiber.. Not sure though..
It's the same stuff they sell in slabs for cannabis growing...

i always thought that the slabs were the same as the bags of loose coco... just compressed into a slab to save space...

but ive never bought a slab so i cant be sure of that

:ohwell: never bought either so what do I know.. All I know is that people grow cannabis in these bricks with pretty good results, so I figured why not try a couple of other plants too..
Also if they work fine by themselves I save a fortune on perlite and werm..

should eb ok.  i usually used 100% that with organic ferts for frog vivariums, as do many others.  lots of random tropicals (including sally d ) grew in it. a few off the top of my head were, various ficus sp., bromeliads, mosses, ferns, rivea and many others i cant think of now.  just remember it is nutrient defunct, so add them right

The seeds you won't sow are the plants you dont grow.

:thumbup:Thanks

Will try my hand at it then..
Any pointers? Any big differences from soil(other than the nutrient requirements)?

Flush it well before you use it, as it usually contains a fair bit of salts.

if its ment for plants, like a gro-brick. there should be the most minimal of salts.

Try testing the EC of the first run off when you hydrate the blocks, you'll be surprised.
