Full Sun
Dry Soil
Water deeply and infrequently

Can be planted outside in southern california year round, or only in summer in other places, and taken into a greenhouse in the winter.

COOL
well my cutting "just" got here

should I and can I?

A.keep it alive without rooting it?(I assume not)
or B.root it right away (by a sunny window ??)
and move it outside when its HOT?

I wanted to wait on rooting it (lack of cash, so no cactus soil for rooting like I read )

so Neuro can I use good old organic potting soil and root this thing by a window for now?? :smirk:

I grew some last year(well, a relative L. nepetifolia). The only problems I had with it is that they drink a TON of water, and it was tough to keep it well watered on those 100 degree days. The other problem was problem I had was that the leaves were constantly curling... I have no clue what caused it. They grow ungodly fast, so be sure to have some extra pots around, I repotted mine 3 times over the course of the summer.

From what I've read, they're pretty hardy plants. I think they can handle temps in the mid 40s. So plant it, grow it to a about foot tall. By the time it's a foot tall and looking nice, the temps should be in the low 40s, then you can move it outside.

As far as rooting goes... I've got no clue. I tried to root a few cuttings in the winter so I'd have a plant for next year, but I had no luck. I tried rooting them in water, like you would with salvia, and in soil. No dice either way. They'd fungus up and die... Maybe someone here can tell you how to root them.

>>The other problem was problem I had was that the leaves were constantly curling...

perhaps nutrient problems? or maybe you watered too much? They're not fond of watering frequently. Although 100 degree days might be an exception

oh yeah: as for rooting i have no clue... i'd maybe try this. mix a small amount of rooting hormone into the area where your'e gonna stick your cutting, water it and leave it. then water it semi-frequently with water with very dilute hormone in it. However that's just some speculation and educated guessing based on passed experience.

I had all but one of my dagga seedlings curl over, shrivel and die, the only survivor is the one I left in the humidity dome. So I plan to leave it there until it's nice and hot out. I'm not sure what killed them, I don't think that they were over or under watered. But I'm still a novice at this, at least I've been doing well with my cacti anyways...
