cakes going rotten befor fully colonized?

ok heres my new problem i injected eqs on april 15 and they went pretty quick the subtrate is brf now i was gunna wait till they were done but i figured they would never bee done looks like stalled cakes so i opened them up and it smells but not like contams i have come across and i have smelled alot of contams any way i cut the bottom pice off and all that the mycelium on the outsid looks great but the inside where i cut it off dosnt look coloniced at all here are some pics is it possable for a cake to go rotten when it stalls? i mean all these cakes are the same so i sepreated them and put them in a pod of there own jus incase i didnt want to screw up the other things i got going any one ever cross this problem befor? i have also niticed that some of the cakes have this weird clear stuff on them only on the out side its not slimy but almost just like dryed slicone also one 1 or 2 of the cakes there are blu spots and i know that brusing but i figured id jus add that too i have no idea on this one it jus dont seem normal. i never had a stalled cake befor so i dunno. do u think mabe the cake ran outta water mabe? they seem soft tho

the smell is hard to explain its sorta sweet but unplasent and strong hard to explain it has a weird smell nuttin like grren mold black or things like that ( thinok i would put it as some kind of grain smell

I had a sweet smelling contam once. It smelled like Southern Comfort, the whiskey. Very disturbing since I got sick off SC once. The smell was strong and perfume like and very sweet, but the cake looked normal thats the weird thing. Needless to say that cake made its way to the garbage pretty quick.

I suggest you toss the cake..'when in doubt, throw it out'.

If you can smell it but can't see it, more than likely it's a bacterial contamination. Throw them out. I boiled some BRF jars the other day but I guess I didn't do it long enough to sterilize it, and after a couple days all those jars had that same sweet/sickening smell. Good thing I waited to innoculate them!!
