Dairy or beef cattle?

Ive been told buy mushroom hunters in my area that ctives only grow on dairy cattle poo...is this true or can they grow on any cow poo??

I've ONLY hunted in pastures where steer were grazing, so that information is incorrect.

If the cow eats grass or hay it will produce. In your area the cows used for dairy may be the only ones that are not fed man-made feed. This feed contains fungicides, to stop psilocybes from growing.

No it doesn't. That is a myth, please use the search feature if you are more curious- but no, farmers do NOT use any sort of fungicides in their cattle feed or otherwise.

Actually, feed rye and other grains often contain fungicides. This has nothing to do with mushrooms. They put fungicides on the grain prior to packaging to increase storage life in damp barns where ranchers who buy it by the truckload often keep their grains for long periods of time. They don't want their feed grains growing molds.

I was not aware of that. What I did know, is that farmers do not use fungicides to prevent mushrooms from colonizing cow dung.

So what sort of fungicide is it that they use on grain?? Does it have any effect on the animals? I assume the cows digestion pretty much destroys the fingicide, or it would indeed, inhibit growth of mushrooms from cow dung.

Im in the midwest and cows are the main thing in my area i mean everywhere its 73 today 77 degrees tommarow and showers tommarow can i expect any popping up??

IMO i would much rather hunt a dairy farm if i had to chose between beef and milk catle...i mean dont you guys remember the saying happy cows make happy milk? The ego around a place where they slaughter cows wouldent set so well with me..nor the cows ..they arent stupid.Around here the fields i hunt are just cow field's where no use comes outa it besides the property....as in no cows are not killed or milked..cept for there babys :wink:...they go to rest in the fields...btw i fell a need to show a buddy of mine -this is a baby boy that  knows me very well, at first he was just curois and would follow me around..now he runs up to the fence when he see's me comming and we play around like any other baby bulls would..they love it when you set your hand on there head ...........HAPPY COWS = HAPPY SHROOMS

I've picked both. My best lib spot is fertilized by beef cows. I must say that dairy cows seem to be more friendly, Dairy cows also seem to be less curious about what I am doing out in their pasture. (IMHO) I must admit, there is something about a 1000lb+ steer following me around and watching me that makes it difficult to pick. Other than being spooked by steer at times, I have never noticed type, color, or sex making a difference with regards to magic mushies. Bovine shit is what the little guys like best.

i'm a voracious omnivore with no problems eating beef or the fact that cows are killed so that i can do so [in and of themselves] but still hate the feeling i get near a slaughter-house. it only took one time comming across one at night on a lot of LSD to make the feeling overwhelming.

U.S.D.A. standards, on milk: pesticides, fungicides, growth hormones, formaldehyde, arsenic, powered milk....... now that dosent mean all milk contains the above but it is allowed by the USDA in trace amounts........ i only drink raw......

grazing cattle usually produce more mushies than gov. feed cattle...

Beef cows, but after we sell some (only when we get too many) the wife stops buying red meat until she is sure that ours will be well and truely through the food chain.  We don't kill anything here, not even snakes. (generally they return the favour)
