my first grow - gratitude and questions

Following the pf-tek for simple minds (because i'm not very scientific), i inoculated 11 jars with B+, and thankfully, all 11 have started showing signs of mycelium (white specks).

Firstly, I'd like to congratulate the Shroomery for all its wonderful and comprehensive information on mushroom cultivation, and also to all its spaced out members, who graciously answered any questions I had about the whole process.

My concerns for now:
1. My room is quite cold, the average temperature being around 69 degrees, and I was too lazy to build an incubator, so I just put my jars in a box with holes on the bottom and put them on top of my heat ventilator with blankets to insulate the heat inside. it took them about a week and a half for show first signs of mycelium. I wanted to know if that was healthy or not, and what I can do now short of building an incubator to raise the temperature. would heating pads work?

2. My room isn't exactly the cleanest (thanks to a messy girlfriend). but thankfully all 11 jars have escaped contamination (so far). at this point, if i don't touch the jars at all, is there any further risk of contamination? i just want to know if i should have reason to be worried still about pesky sterility issues.

3. Has anyone else used the pf-tek for simple minds? i'd like to know what you think!

thats all for now guys, i finally tripped again a few days ago (on acid though, not shrooms), and its been several months since my last trip. thankfully i have not turned into a square yet, and can still see into the infinite depths of my mind. I can't wait for my shrooms to come in, and I have the highest hopes for a wonderfully psychedelic summer.

1. It's not unhealthy, but if those jars would have been kept in the optimal 78-82df range they'd probably be around 70% colonised by now. Also once the mycelium is starting to look strong and spreading, open the holes which you used for inoculation (if there not already so) to allow some FAE. This will help speed up the process and is good for the mycelium.

2. There is always a risk of contamination until the jars are completely colonized, and even then there's a risk. But if you be clean and careful this can be easily avoided. And atleast if you are clean and cautious and they still end up getting contaminated you'll know that you did your best, and hopefully have better luck next time.

3. Haven't used it, although i cant see it being that different from the original PF tek, in which case, it's fantastic!

do you have something to measure the temp with? i have 2 digital thermometers in my incubator... they are cheap, and if u dint want to make an incubator you should at least have a thermometer to make sure your not killing Ur mycelium.. if your jars were around 80 degrees, mycelium would have popped up much faster..

I'm in the process of using the pf-tek for simple minds right now,, I'm inoculating 6 B+ jars later tonight...
